We are seeking a skilled Manual Machinist to set up and operate conventional machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, and other manual machining equipment. The ideal candidate will be able to manufacture, repair, and modify precision parts according to engineering drawings, specifications, and tolerances while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities- Set up and operate manual lathes, mills, grinders, and other machine shop equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions.
- Measure and inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and dial indicators.
- Perform machining operations including turning, milling, drilling, boring, threading, and grinding.
- Maintain close tolerances and ensure parts meet quality specifications.
- Select appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds for various materials and machining operations.
- Troubleshoot machining issues and make necessary adjustments to equipment and processes.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and keep equipment in safe operating condition.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with safety standards.
- Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other shop personnel to meet production goals.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.
- 3+ years of experience operating manual machining equipment.
- Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, and metalworking practices.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments.
- Knowledge of shop mathematics, including geometry and trigonometry.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
- Experience with tool and die work, prototype machining, or repair work.
- Welding or fabrication experience.
- Familiarity with CNC equipment and programming.
- Manufacturing, maintenance, repair, or machine shop setting.
- Exposure to machine noise, metal chips, lubricants, and industrial equipment.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) required as appropriate.
