Miscellaneous Metals, Inc. is a steel fabrication and installation company serving commercial construction projects throughout the region. We are seeking a dependable and safety-focused Band Saw Operator to join our fabrication shop.

Position Summary

The Band Saw Operator is responsible for measuring, identifying, handling, and cutting steel materials according to shop drawings, bills of material, cut lists, and production requirements. This position also assists with receiving and unloading steel deliveries using an overhead crane. The ideal candidate is dependable, attentive to detail, comfortable working in an active fabrication environment, and willing to learn.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Operate a band saw to cut steel materials to required measurements and specifications.
  • Read a tape measure accurately and efficiently, including fractional measurements.
  • Review basic shop drawings, plans, cut lists, and bills of material.
  • Identify the correct steel materials and verify measurements before cutting.
  • Load, position, and secure materials on the band saw.
  • Unload steel deliveries and move materials using an overhead crane.
  • Verify completed cuts for accuracy and report discrepancies to the supervisor.
  • Label, organize, and stage cut materials for the next step in production.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Follow all shop safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Assist with other shop and material-handling duties as needed.
Qualifications
  • Ability to accurately and efficiently read a tape measure.
  • Basic math skills involving measurements, quantities, and fractions.
  • Basic ability to read and understand shop drawings, blueprints, plans, cut lists, and bills of material.
  • Ability to identify materials and compare them with job requirements.
  • Willingness and ability to learn band saw and overhead-crane operations.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Dependable attendance and ability to report to work by 6:00 a.m.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
  • Steel fabrication, manufacturing, warehouse, industrial saw, or overhead-crane experience is preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to alternate between sitting and standing throughout the workday as necessary.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, and pull as required.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and handle materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to safely work around long, heavy, or irregularly shaped steel materials.
  • Ability to operate a band saw and overhead crane after completing required training and authorization.
  • Manual dexterity to operate controls, use measuring devices, and handle materials.
Work Environment

Work is performed in an active steel fabrication shop where steel materials are regularly cut, fabricated, moved, and transported. The environment may be noisy and may include exposure to moving equipment, welding activity, dust, sparks, and changing temperatures. Employees must remain alert to their surroundings and wear required personal protective equipment, which may include safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, steel-toed footwear, and a hard hat.
