Altus specializes in delivering comprehensive engineering, prototyping, testing, and production capabilities, including design, fabrication, assembly, and compliance support to our government customers. The Sheet Metal Fabricator will be responsible for performing non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity on project articles, components, and support structures and equipment.
The Sheet Metal Technician (with Mechanical Assembly expertise) is responsible for assembling mechanical components and subassemblies according to engineering drawings, work requests, written and verbal instructions, and quality specifications and tolerances. We are seeking an individual who can apply their Mechanical Assembly expertise to add value and make a strong impact supporting the Naval Air Warfare Center (NAWCAD), Naval Air Systems Command, and the NAWCAD Webster Outlying Field Divisions.
Primary Responsibilities
Assembly & Fabrication
- Assemble mechanical parts, components, and systems using hand tools, power tools, and assembly fixtures.
- Interpret and follow blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and direction from senior fabricators.
- Perform fitting, alignment, and installation of parts/hardware to ensure proper form, fit, and function.
Quality Control
- Inspect parts and assemblies for defects or deviations from specifications.
- Report non-conformities to department lead prior to or during the assembly process.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain records of materials used and time spent on tasks.
- Read and interpret drawings to properly complete material request documents to inventory control.
Safety & Maintenance
- Follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Perform basic maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Communicate effectively with team members, leads, and supervisors.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and team meetings.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical training in mechanical assembly a plus
- 3-5+ years of experience in mechanical assembly
- Expertise in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and schematics
- Proficiency with hand and power tools
- Strong attention to detail and quality
- Basic math and measurement skills
Work Conditions
Conditions will vary. Capable of working outdoors in temperatures ranging from 0–100 degrees. The position will include regular standing, bending, reaching, sitting, walking, and lifting. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Overtime may be necessary from time to time depending on workload.
