The general role of the Shop Clean-Up Person
- Fabrication & Machining is to keep the Fabrication and Machine Shop clean and orderly. This position will sweep, remove unnecessary debris and items, gather trash, empty dumpsters, and wipe down machines to keep the shop neat, clean, and organized. Strong organizational skills are a must. Ability to work both independently without constant supervision and with others as needed. Ability to follow instructions.
This individual will have a basic understanding of machine and shop safety and must be flexible and willing to work extended hours as needed.
What You'll Do- Sweep the shop floor both manually and with a mechanized floor sweeper
- Gather trash, rubbish, unnecessary debris, etc. to be reallocated or thrown away as appropriate
- Separate scrap, trash, and reusable materials as directed to support proper disposal, recycling, or return to inventory
- Empty trash and scrap dumpsters into the appropriate collection bin
- Wipe equipment free of dust, dirt, grease, oil, metal chips, etc.
- Return shop tools, hoses, cords, brooms, shovels, and other common-use items to their designated storage areas after use or as directed
- Assist with keeping walkways, work areas, material staging areas, and emergency access points clear of unnecessary items or obstructions
- Notify the Shop Supervisor or Production Manager of unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, excessive debris, spills, or housekeeping concerns observed during routine clean-up activities
Working Conditions
- Sit, stand, talk, hear, read, and write
- Regularly walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms, climb in and out of equipment such as forklifts, etc.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Work both inside and outside in harsh weather conditions
- Adhere to and follow all health, safety, and environmental standards
- 2+ years of relevant work history
- Basic understanding of housekeeping practices in a shop, fabrication, manufacturing, or industrial work environment preferred
- Ability to work around fabrication and machining operations while maintaining awareness of moving equipment, materials, and shop hazards
- Ability to work independently, follow verbal and written instructions, and complete routine tasks with minimal supervision
- Possess a valid driver's license
- Previous forklift experience preferred
- Ability to safely operate basic hand tools and common shop cleaning equipment
