Sanitation Associate
The Sanitation Associate maintains a clean, safe, and compliant manufacturing environment by thoroughly cleaning assigned areas inside and outside the plant, including equipment, machinery, and general grounds. This role follows strict food safety, GMP, and HAACP standards, uses plant touch screens to perform CIP (Clean-in-Place) procedures, and operates a variety of cleaning tools and chemicals safely and effectively in a fast-paced production setting.
Responsibilities- Clean and sanitize all assigned areas inside and outside the manufacturing facility, including production equipment, machinery, and general grounds.
- Perform detailed sanitation of food production and manufacturing areas in accordance with GMP and food safety standards.
- Follow HAACP principles and company sanitation protocols to prevent contamination and ensure product safety.
- Proficiently use plant touch screens to initiate and monitor CIP (Clean-in-Place) procedures on designated equipment.
- Handle, mix, and apply cleaning chemicals and sanitizers safely, following labeling instructions and safety guidelines.
- Demonstrate proper use of cleaning tools such as squeegees, mops, brooms, hand and floor scrapers, and paint brushes.
- Maintain cleanliness of custodial and janitorial areas, including floors, walls, and work surfaces.
- Conduct routine housekeeping tasks to keep production and support areas organized and free of debris.
- Communicate effectively with production and sanitation team members to coordinate cleaning schedules and tasks.
- Work independently on a small sanitation team, managing assigned duties and prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Support industrial cleaning activities in both food manufacturing and chemical production areas as needed.
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and adherence to respirator fit test requirements.
- Report any equipment issues, safety hazards, or sanitation concerns to appropriate personnel promptly.
- Help maintain compliance with regulatory and internal audits related to sanitation, GMP, and food safety.
- Assist with additional janitorial and custodial duties as required to support overall facility cleanliness.
- 2–3 years of sanitation experience in a manufacturing setting preferred, with consideration for candidates from custodial, janitorial, or sanitation roles who demonstrate strong job tenure.
- Hands-on experience with sanitation or industrial cleaning in production or manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) in a production or food manufacturing setting.
- Understanding of food safety principles and HAACP guidelines.
- Ability to follow CIP (Clean-in-Place) procedures using plant touch screens and related systems.
- Proficiency in using cleaning tools such as squeegees, mops, brooms, scrapers, and brushes.
- Capability to work effectively in a fast-paced, production-based environment.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate tasks within a small sanitation team and with production staff.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned sanitation duties.
- Comfort working around food production, flavors, and chemical-based products.
- Reliability and consistent work history demonstrating good job tenure.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in janitorial, custodial, housekeeping, or industrial cleaning roles is highly relevant.
- Experience in food production, food manufacturing, or related environments is an advantage.
- Familiarity with chemical handling and safe use of cleaning products and sanitizers.
- Understanding of production workflows and the impact of sanitation on manufacturing efficiency.
- Comfort working in both edible product environments (e.g., seasonings, food colorings) and non-edible product environments (e.g., essential oils for candles).
- Willingness to comply with respirator fit test requirements, including shaving facial hair once per year.
- Ability to wear required PPE consistently, including hair nets, beard nets, and other GMP-related protective equipment.
- Readiness to wear steel-toe footwear as part of daily work attire.
