We are seeking a seasoned marketing and communications professional to succeed in a digital role that is ready to shape how a national nonprofit connects with the audiences that matter most.
About the companyThe National Center for Victims of Crime (NCVC) is the nation's leading resource and advocacy organization for victims of crime, dedicated to serving individuals, families, and communities harmed by crime. Working with local, state, and federal partners, NCVC provides direct services to victims, advocates for laws and policies that protect victims' rights, and delivers training and technical assistance to victim service organizations and criminal justice professionals.
Aboutthe role
This is not an entry-level position. We need a hands‑on professional with a strong editorial foundation, a sharp instinct for what resonates online, and the practical experience to execute at a high level with limited oversight and an ownership mentality. A background in journalism or social media for a news organization is a significant plus. This individual role is expected to be in‑office as needed at 8181 Professional Place, Suite 110, Landover, MD.
The starting salary range for this position is $50,000-$60,000 annually, depending on experience.
Strategy, content creation, community management, scheduling, and analytics across all platforms.
Newsletter & comms support (20%)Write, edit, and distribute newsletters end-to-end: story sourcing, copywriting, layout, and list management; other programmatic support duties as needed.
Visual content (10%)Attend events to capture photos and video; maintain the organizational visual asset library.
Reports to: Deputy Director of Communications Travel: Annual conference and select events; all travel and lodging covered by NCVC.Note on AI: Generative AI may be used as a support tool, but human-powered creativity is an expectation — not an option.
- Bachelor’s in journalism, communications, or equivalent experience
- 3-5 years in professional communications or digital media
- Proven social media management at organizational or brand level
- Strong editorial judgment for digital audiences
- Email marketing:
Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or similar - Short‑form video editing (Reels, Tik Tok) and Canva / Adobe Express
- Excellent writing and copy editing, long‑and short‑form
- Ability to manage competing deadlines independently
- Professional maturity, detail focus, ownership of product, & ability to work effectively and independently with an eye to deadlines and quality
- Background in journalism or news organization social media management
- Familiarity with crime victim issues or nonprofit sector experience
