Registered Nurse – CVOR

Facility: University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center
Location: Largo, MD
Unit: Operating Room – Cardiovascular OR (CVOR)
Shift: Day – 4×10 Hours (6:45 AM – 5:15 PM)
Assignment Duration: 13 Weeks
Start Date: February 23, 2026
Schedule: Weekends and on-call required
Float Requirement: Yes – to General OR as needed, within scope of practice
Charting System: Epic

On-Call Requirements:
  • 10–15 on-call shifts per contract are required

  • Weekday/Weeknight call: Begins at the end of the scheduled shift and continues until 6:30 AM the following morning

  • Weekend call:
    24-hour on-call shift

  • On-call shifts are equally distributed among all CVOR staff

Unit Overview

The CVOR at University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center is a high-acuity surgical environment supporting cardiovascular, thoracic, vascular, and complex surgical procedures. The unit requires experienced CVOR nurses with strong circulating and scrub skills who are comfortable supporting a wide range of service lines and floating to the General OR when CVOR case volume is low.

Clinical

Job Duties:
  • Circulate and scrub for cardiovascular surgical procedures, including open-heart, thoracic, vascular, and endovascular cases, while adhering to sterile technique and patient safety standards.

  • Prepare and manage the operating room environment, including surgical instruments, equipment, supplies, and advanced technology used in CVOR and hybrid OR procedures.

  • Monitor patients intraoperatively, assist anesthesia and surgical teams, manage specimens, administer blood products as indicated, and respond appropriately to emergent situations.

  • Provide perioperative nursing care across CVOR and General OR settings, supporting multiple surgical service lines such as Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, General Surgery, and Trauma as needed.

  • Participate in on-call responsibilities, respond to urgent and emergent surgical cases, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure efficient workflow and optimal surgical outcomes.

  • Requirements

    Licensure

    • Active Maryland RN License or Compact License – Required

    Experience

    • Minimum 3–5 years of CVOR experience – Required

    • Strong circulating and scrub experience – Required

    • General OR experience across multiple service lines – Required

    • First-time travelers considered with strong recent CVOR experience

    Certifications

    • BLS – Required

    • ACLS – Preferred
