Overview
GHR Healthcare is seeking a travel nurse RN for a 13‑week assignment in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) in Mechanicsville, VA (Richmond area).
Assignment Details- Start date:
May 26, 2026 - End date:
August 22, 2026 - Duration: 13 weeks
- Shift: 12‑hour nights, every other weekend and one major holiday required
- Hours per week: 36
- Estimated weekly pay: $2,130–$2,250 (competitive travel pay)
- Travel nurse – 12‑hour shifts (payment based on 12‑hour shifts)
- Location:
Mechanicsville, VA 23116 (Richmond area) - Unit: 11‑bed CVICU
- Patient population: adult cardiac surgery (CABG, TAVR, VAD, pacemaker, AICD, etc.)
- Support staff:
Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) available on unit - No local candidates – must reside outside a 50‑mile radius
- Minimum 2 years of recent CVICU RN experience, including immediate post‑op CABG recovery
- Current RN license in Virginia or Compact License accepted
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
- Experience with Swan‑Ganz catheters required
- Advanced device experience (ECMO, IABP, Impella) preferred
- Must pass EKG exam at orientation
- Ability to serve as backup charge RN / resource RN
- At least 1 year of RN experience required
- Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments and develop individualized CVICU care plans
- Recover and manage immediate post‑op cardiac surgery patients (CABG, valve procedures, TAVR)
- Perform hemodynamic monitoring and manage advanced cardiac devices (Swan‑Ganz, IABP, Impella; work with perfusionist for ECMO cases)
- Administer medications, titrate drips, and manage complex infusions per hospital policies
- Serve as backup charge nurse and clinical resource for the CVICU team
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (cardiothoracic surgeons, perfusionists, respiratory therapy, pharmacy) to optimize patient outcomes
- Provide education and discharge planning for patients and families on cardiac surgery care plans and device management
- Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to patient safety and infection control standards
- Respond quickly and confidently to rapidly changing critical care scenarios
