Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a CVICU position requiring an active MD or Compact RN license and 2+ years of CVICU/open heart experience.

Details
  • Work in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) of a hospital setting
  • Care for patients with cardiac surgery diagnoses including CABG, valve repair/replacement, and combined CABG/valve procedures
  • Manage cardiac conditions such as STEMI, NSTEMI, AFib with RVR, and cardiogenic shock
  • Treat vascular patients including peripheral bypasses and EVAR procedures
  • Support thoracic surgery patients including VATS cases
  • Maintain a 1:2 patient ratio
  • Epic charting system experience preferred
  • Day shift schedule with 3x12-hour shifts from
  • Every other weekend required
  • Holiday coverage required as scheduled
  • Floating required within the specialty, sister units, and lower acuity units as needed
Requirements
  • Active MD or Compact RN license required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA only)
  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required
  • 2+ years of CVICU/open heart experience required
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Prior travel nursing experience required, though first-time travelers with extensive CVICU/open heart experience will be considered
  • Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care, and PICC line management
  • Experience with ventilator management, ABG interpretation, and suctioning (ETT, NT)
  • Proficient in titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Experience managing IABP, TAVR, and post cardiac surgery patients (directly and not directly from OR)
  • Skilled in dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • Experience obtaining 12-lead EKG/ECG
  • Competent in infection prevention and isolation precautions/PPE
  • CPI certification required (Calm Every Storm online version only accepted vendor)
Additional Information
  • Provide comprehensive critical care nursing to cardiovascular surgical and medical patients
  • Collaborate with a specialized CVICU team supporting complex cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgery cases
  • Travelers are expected to float within scope with no restrictions
  • Complete required lab work within 72 hours of contract signing
  • Submit compliance documents at least 5 days prior to start date
  • Candidates must live 50+ miles from the facility to be eligible unless otherwise noted
  • Maximum RTO request of 7 days, with additional week required on the back end for requests of more than 4 consecutive days on new contracts
  • One major holiday off during winter season may be permitted depending on unit needs
  • Returning staff must be separated from the health system for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
  • Returning travelers must wait at least 6 months after assignment completion before returning to the system
  • Extensions typically limited to one contract plus one extension, followed by a required 6-month break before returning to the same facility/unit
  • First-time travelers with extensive CVICU/open heart experience will be considered
