Location: Brentwood

Island Harvest is currently seeking a part-time, seasonal employee to work on Island Harvest’s 2‑acre farm in Brentwood under the direction of the Farm and Gardens Supervisor. The position is approximately 25 hours a week from March to November.

This is an exciting opportunity to receive first‑hand experience working on a small‑scale farm while connecting to a wide network of active community leaders, educators, and volunteers interested in working together to help feed our neighbors in need on Long Island. Come help us achieve our mission of ending hunger and reducing food waste on Long Island.

Duties and

Responsibilities include:
  • Performing farm tasks including but not limited to seeding, transplanting, weeding, pest and disease management, and harvesting.
  • Engaging corporate and community support to secure supplies, support and involvement toward mission under supervision of the organization’s Development Office.
  • Coordinating activities and programming under the guidance of the Farm and Gardens Supervisor.
  • Lead and teach volunteer groups and individuals in conjunction with the Farm and Gardens Supervisor.
  • Contributing to social media content and outreach.
Qualifications:
  • Some knowledge of, and interest in, sustainable agriculture, gardening, and local food systems.
  • Willingness to speak in front of, and direct groups of, people.
  • Love of nature and a willingness to work outdoors in most weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds and bend or kneel for long periods of time.
  • Experience with and/or willingness to learn to safely operate small farm machinery like lawn mowers, weed whackers, basic power tools, etc.
  • Strong written and organizational skills, and sharp attention to detail.
  • Passion for community outreach and education.
  • Experience with Outlook, Word, Excel, Google Suite, and Zoom a plus.
Duration and

Schedule:

This position is offered from March through November. The workweek is 20-25 hours, Monday-Friday, with flexibility between 8:00 am – 2:00 pm, with some occasional weekend and later afternoon hours, as needed. Schedule may vary according to the needs of the farm.

Compensation: $22 per hour
