Quality Technician – Full Time – Owings Mills, MD, US

Salary Range: $25.50 to $29.50 hourly

.

Position Overview

As Quality Technician
, report to the Quality Assurance Manager and perform quality control inspections (first article, incoming, in‑process, final). Manage the Elevator Safety Company (ELSCO) nonconforming products process, maintain the ELSCO QA lab, and support implementation of ISO 9001.

Responsibilities
  • Incoming Inspection (Primary owner of the Incoming Inspection process for materials requiring incoming inspection).
    • Maintain part specific Characteristic Historical Inspection Plans
    • Manage the performance of inspections – in‑house or at vendor facility
    • Develop written processes for part inspection; provide initiative to develop inspection fixtures (with Engineering assistance)
    • Monitor vendor performance and resolve quality related issues
  • In‑process inspection and final testing
    • Perform and assist with parts testing, in‑process inspection, and final inspection/testing
    • Assist in troubleshooting problems
    • Review and maintain in‑process inspection forms generated by the ELSCO production department
  • Management of nonconforming products
    • Overall management of ELSCO nonconforming items identified at any point in the process from incoming inspection through product returned by customer
    • Lead internal Material Review Board (MRB)
    • Monitor vendor performance and resolve quality related issues
    • Provide feedback on vendor corrective action status
    • Recommend training, retraining, or process creation to address internal issues
  • Provide First Article Inspection/Review for product sustainment activities
    • Monitor and manage submission of first article samples and documentation
    • Initiate part inspection for first article pieces with required technical expertise
    • Prepare first article report and documentation package
    • Facilitate first article review and signoffs

      Assist vendor communication for open quality issues and maintain inspection records
  • Support Corrective Action process
    • Assist Quality Coordinator with issuance of Corrective Action Requests
    • Follow‑up on responses; verify effectiveness of corrections; close requests
  • Support management of test and calibrated equipment
    • Assist Sr. Quality Specialist with locating and collecting equipment for vendor service and calibration
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Job Qualifications & Requirements

    Minimum Background and

    Skills Required:

    • H.S. Diploma or equivalent
    • 3 to 5 years’ quality control experience in manufacturing
    • Proficient with measurement devices such as calipers, micrometers, indicators
    • Read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD T
    • Experience with ISO 9001
    • Knowledge of Word, Excel, database and ERP software, and data entry skills
    • Strong troubleshooting; experience preparing and writing work instructions
    • Excellent communication with cross‑functional teams, vendors, and customers
    • Occasional travel locally to vendors/customer sites

    Additional Background and Skills Preferred:

    • Some college credits or Associate Degree in a technical field
    • Applicable ASQ certification or training
    • Experience with Quality Assurance Software (e.g., Discus, Unipoint)
    • Experience with surface roughness, coating thickness, rubber durometer, and rubber rheology testing
    Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
    • Push, pull, lift parts and assemblies weighing 35‑65 lbs.
    • Communicate verbally with internal and external customers
    • Listen to team leaders and members requests
    • Listen for defects in machinery
    • Visually inspect materials and machinery
