Electrical Test Technician

The Electrical Test Technician conducts comprehensive testing and inspection of electrical switchboards and power distribution equipment to ensure full compliance with UL standards, NEC requirements, and customer specifications. This role combines hands-on electrical testing, detailed documentation, and close collaboration with production and engineering teams to maintain product integrity, reliability, and safety in a high-growth manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform electrical testing on switchboards and power distribution equipment, including dielectric testing, mechanical operation verification, and control wiring validation.
  • Execute quality control inspections in accordance with UL 891 and NEC standards to confirm that all products meet required specifications.
  • Accurately record inspection results, test data, and quality-related findings, and maintain detailed reports for compliance and internal review.
  • Monitor production processes to ensure consistency, adherence to approved specifications, and early identification of potential issues or deviations.
  • Ensure all products and processes comply with internal quality standards and applicable industry regulations and certifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve quality issues by collaborating with production and engineering teams, identifying root causes, and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting process adjustments that enhance product quality and reduce waste.
  • Verify that all testing and inspection equipment is properly calibrated, maintained, and ready for use.
  • Follow all safety procedures and contribute to maintaining a safe, orderly working environment.
  • Collaborate closely with production teams, engineers, and leads to support efficient testing workflows and product delivery.
  • Complete other duties as assigned to support production, testing, and quality objectives.

Essential

Skills:

  • Minimum associate degree in electrical technology or equivalent education, and/or significant experience working with UL 891 and NEC standards.
  • NETA certification or similar electrical testing certification.
  • At least 2 years of experience testing industrial electrical equipment using test equipment such as Hi-pot testers and multimeters.
  • Strong knowledge of basic electricity, current flow, and electrical component functionality.
  • Solid understanding of electrical safety practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of quality control processes and techniques in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with inspection tools and testing equipment, including dimensional measurement, torque tools, dielectric testing, and insulation testing.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret manufacturing documents, component literature, engineering drawings, and testing procedures.
  • Understanding of electrical theory and power distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70E requirements preferred.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in inspection and testing procedures, especially for customized switchboard products where each job requires individual testing.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve quality-related issues effectively.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to clearly report findings and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel occasionally for field support.
  • Ability to regularly stand, walk, sit, reach at or above shoulder level, grip, and use hands to handle and feel components and tools.
  • Ability to frequently stoop, lift, carry, push, pull, and grip, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds and pushing/pulling 60 pounds or more with or without accommodation.

Additional Skills &

Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a manufacturing or production environment focused on electrification products or critical infrastructure is beneficial.
  • Comfort working with customized switchboard products where each job requires unique testing and documentation.
  • Willingness to participate in extensive training and ongoing development, including working closely with leads in a team-based structure.
  • Ability to adapt to a rotating 2-2-3 schedule and support production needs on a 12-hour shift.
  • Strong teamwork mindset and willingness to collaborate with quality, engineering, and production personnel.
  • Interest in career growth into areas such as quality, machine operation, or leadership roles.
