St. Michaels Market is looking for a dependable, motivated Deli & Prepared Foods Cook to join our team.

This is a cooking and food production-focused position within our deli. Unlike a traditional deli position, this role will not be responsible for taking customer orders or working a register. Our customer-facing deli staff will take the orders, allowing this position to focus on what they do best — preparing great food quickly, consistently, and efficiently.

The position will initially focus primarily on preparing our breakfast and lunch sandwiches. As the position develops, our goal is to expand the role into a larger part of our prepared foods program, including store‑made meals, sides, grab‑and‑go offerings, and other prepared items.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a kitchen environment, takes pride in the food they prepare, and is interested in helping us grow this part of our business.

• Prepare breakfast sandwiches and other breakfast items
• Prepare hot and cold lunch sandwiches based on orders received from deli staff
• Cook and prepare meats, eggs, proteins, toppings, and other ingredients
  
  Complete daily food preparation and production
• Maintain proper portioning, presentation, and consistency
• Keep cooking and prep stations clean, organized, and fully stocked
• Maintain proper food temperatures and follow food safety and sanitation standards
• Work quickly and accurately during busy breakfast and lunch periods
• Monitor ingredients and communicate prep or inventory needs to deli management
• Assist with cleaning equipment, utensils, cooking surfaces, and work areas
• Follow established recipes and procedures
• Work closely with the deli team to ensure orders are completed accurately and on time

We are actively looking to grow our prepared foods program, and we want this position to grow along with it.

Once comfortable and proficient with our breakfast and lunch operations, this position will have the opportunity to take on additional food production responsibilities, which may include:

• Prepared entrees and meals
• Hot and cold side dishes
• Soups
• Salads
• Grab‑and‑go meals
• Daily and seasonal specials
• New recipes and prepared food offerings

We want someone who can eventually help us develop, improve, and expand our prepared foods selection, not simply make sandwiches every day.

• Previous cooking, line cook, deli, restaurant, or food preparation experience is preferred
• Comfortable working on a grill, flat‑top, or similar cooking equipment
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment
• Strong attention to food quality and consistency

• Clean and organized work habits
• Understanding of basic food safety and sanitation
• Ability to follow recipes and portion standards
• Willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities
• Ability to work well as part of a team
