The wage range for this position is between $24.45 and $34.82 per hour, based on years of service. To view benefits, please follow the link below: The role requires flexible hours and weekend work as assigned by the principal, and occasional overtime. Only candidates who have completed the screening interview with the Dept. School Safety & Security will be considered.
Preference is given to bilingual English/Spanish candidates with a working knowledge of safety procedures, behavior management techniques, investigative procedures, and strong written and oral communication skills.
Positions in this class are assigned to the local school to assist the administration in maintaining a safe and secure learning environment. Under the general supervision of the security team leader, the incumbent screens visitor access, maintains student class attendance, and performs other duties related to school security operations. The role requires physical strength to intervene in fights and physically restrain persons, stamina to spend long periods walking and standing, and the ability to patrol outdoors in inclement weather.
The incumbent must wear the designated security uniform and work flexible hours, including weekends and occasional overtime, as assigned by the principal or security team leader.
Knowledge of procedures, practices, and policies for ensuring safety and welfare of others; behavior management techniques; security practices and procedures; investigative procedures (desirable). Ability to rapidly acquire specific knowledge of school and MCPS policies on student attendance, suspension, student involvement, and behavior standards. Excellent written and oral communication skills, human relations skills, and the ability to work harmoniously with staff and students under team leader supervision.
Familiarity with the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
High School or GED diploma required;
Associate’s degree preferred. College coursework in criminology, law enforcement, or related fields is desirable. Experience in environments involving the welfare and safety of students or others, preferably in education, is required; investigative experience and experience in person and property security, preferably as a police officer, are desirable. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience may be considered if they provide the necessary knowledge, abilities, and skills for effective performance.

Possession of a valid Maryland Class C non‑commercial driver’s license, or equivalent. First aid and CPR certification.
