POSITION SUMMARY:
The Supervisor of School Safety provides leadership and technical expertise in emergency preparedness and school security, serving as the primary liaison with law enforcement, school administrators, and community agencies to maintain safe, inclusive learning environments.
This role ensures compliance with Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and Maryland Center for School Safety (MCSS) standards and oversees safety drills, crisis planning, investigations, and security systems. The supervisor also monitors threat reporting, conducts site safety assessments, and, in collaboration with principals, supervises and supports, school-based safety personnel (e.g., Safety Advocates), including performance management, coaching, and input on hiring decisions.
The Supervisor serves as the direct representative of Calvert County Public Schools (CCPS) to the Calvert County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) and manages the School Resource Officer (SRO) program, ensuring coordination of law enforcement support within schools. The Supervisor leads the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of a comprehensive, district wide school safety and security program aligned with MCSS guidance and best practices.
Additional responsibilities include coordinating security for major district events, managing emergency management grants, delivering staff training on safety protocols and due process, and overseeing extended suspension conferences. Through proactive planning and collaboration, the Supervisor of School Safety safeguards student well-being and promotes orderly, secure schools across Calvert County Public Schools.
