Description
Fire Alarm System Technician – Provide fire alarm maintenance support at APL, a premier research center in the Baltimore/Washington area.
Responsibilities- Respond to system supervisory or trouble alarms, make repairs and/or engage with vendors to facilitate repairs.
- Determine cause of system alarms and perform necessary repairs.
- Complete after-action reports in the work management system detailing the nature of the issue and resolution.
- Prioritize and coordinate workflow with supervisor.
- Monitor system operation and analyze alarms to maintain continuous coverage.
- Respond to system issues promptly.
- Perform scheduled inspections, testing and routine preventative maintenance.
- Participate in fire alarm system testing.
- Utilize APL vehicles in the course of daily operation.
- High school diploma or equivalency.
- Experience in electrical and/or fire alarm systems.
- Excellent oral and written communication regarding fire protection and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- In-depth knowledge of electronic theories as applied to complex electrical systems.
- Knowledge of NFPA standards and related codes.
- Capability to perform repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms.
- Physical ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds frequently.
- Availability to work day shift Monday‑Friday with occasional overtime and emergency response.
- Valid state driver’s license in good standing.
- U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status required.
- Master electrician license.
- NICET certification.
- 10+ years journeyperson or equivalent experience with life safety fire alarm systems.
- Experience using Maximo CMMS.

PayMinimum Rate: $27.95 hourly
Maximum Rate: $51.25 hourly
