Responsibilities
Responsible for gaining a working knowledge of and performing fire protection inspections and 24-hour service under direct supervision of an Inspection/Service Technician.
- Assist Inspectors while they inspect, test, and maintain fire protection systems in accordance with NFPA codes
- Developing knowledge of life safety and NFPA codes and standards.
- Developing knowledge of fire sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, fire suppression systems and their devices, appurtenances, critical components and operations.
- Perform testing and maintenance under direct supervision of an Inspection/Service Technician.
- Complete on the job training documentation each week.
- Differentiate between inspection deficiencies and service required to correct found deficiencies.
- Follow SFS’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous Communication Program, policies and procedures; attend weekly Toolbox talks; maintain safety documentation on each project.
- Attend Inspector training sessions to stay abreast of changing technology, installation and testing, and reporting approaches.
- Begin NICET exam cycle application within the 3rd evolution of training; prepare for NICET within the 4th evolution; test for NICET during session 5 or within 1 year of hire.
- Pass NICET Level II certification in Inspection Testing & Maintenance of Water Based Fire Protection Systems before achieving Inspector status.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- HS Diploma or equivalent required.
- 0-2 years’ experience inspecting fire protection systems preferred. Must be able to work alone and as part of a team.
- Basic math skills, mechanical aptitude, problem solving skills, customer service skills, decision-making skills, ability to multitask, ability to meet project schedules, ability to plan and organize, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to train others required.
- Effectively read, write and communicate in English with employees and customers.
- Operate a computer and tablet, required.
- Experience with Sales Force and ERP systems preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.
- Comply with SFS’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, which may also include customer-specific requirements based on contractual agreement.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, ascend and descend step stools, ladders and stairs, kneel, lift 50lbs
, reach above and below shoulders, stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Employee is required to see in color, close and far distances, peripheral, depth, and adjust focus. Employee will occasionally be required to balance, crouch, drive, kneel, lift >50lbs, sit, stoop, twist, and work at heights.
Frequent local travel and occasional regional and non-regional travel is required. Employee may work inside and outside in hot/cold temperatures and be exposed to loud noises, cramped quarters, dust, fumes and odors, standing on hard surfaces, and electrical hazards frequently. Employees may occasionally be exposed to chemicals, moving machinery, uneven and slippery surfaces. Employee must consistently wear all appropriate personal protective equipment, as required by company safety policies.
