Job Summary

Cox Fleet, headquartered in Indianapolis, is hiring a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician (Sr. Mobile Diesel Technician). The role involves performing licensed DOT inspections, preventive maintenance, light and advanced repairs, diagnostics, and various mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical tasks for light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles.
  • Conduct minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment such as electrical, brake, cooling, starter/alternator, fan clutches, engine electronics, steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches and differentials.
  • Diagnose, adjust and repair various truck equipment using test instruments and handheld computers.
  • Road test vehicles to confirm functionality and safety.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Identify problems, evaluate alternatives and determine solutions using sound judgment.
  • Manage parts inventory, reconcile inventory and maintain the company‑issued service truck.
  • Perform safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections of the service vehicle.
  • Listen effectively to clients, assess their needs and provide solutions.
  • Prioritize concurrent tasks and manage time efficiently.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lift and jacks.
  • Document repairs on Repair Orders (RO) using an iOS device and the TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation.
  • Operate independently, managing your daily schedule and maintaining high productivity.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
  • Communicate with management and support team for repair estimate approvals and purchase order information.
  • Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED; 5 years’ experience in a related field (or alternative combinations of education and experience as noted).
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for the job.
  • Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
  • Obtain ASE 608/609 certification within 18 months.
  • Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical.
  • Maintain a valid DOT medical card with at least four months until expiration (or meet DOT physical requirements).
  • Be at least 21 years old and possess a valid driver’s license, meeting state Driver Qualification File requirements.
  • Have a safe driving record.

Benefits & Compensation

USD 35.48 – 53.27 per hour (base rate may vary by location and qualifications). Eligible for additional commission and incentive programs.
