Altus specializes in delivering comprehensive engineering, prototyping, testing, and production capabilities, including design, fabrication, assembly, and compliance support to our government customers. The Welder/Fabricator will be responsible for performing non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity on project articles, components, and support structures and equipment.
We are looking for an individual that can use their Welder experience to add value and make a significant impact as a Welder to NAVAIR for this opportunity.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform as a member of a project work team on project article preparations, modifications, assembly, setup, and teardown using fabrication shop machinery, fabrication, and welding operations to meet project requirements according to approved design tolerances.
- Perform modifications to, or construct, unique equipment, systems, and structures.
- Perform inspection and acceptance checks at project milestones and upon completion of project assignments to ensure technical adequacy.
- Fabricate unconventional, one‑of‑a‑kind items, systems, apparatus, and structures in support of experimental project articles.
- Plan and conduct work from blueprints, drawings, plans, and/or technical publications.
- Perform maintenance, repair, and updates on specialized equipment and systems unique to WOLF operations.
- Perform other tasks as required to support customer requirements.
Qualifications:
- Active U.S. DoD SECRET Security Clearance (Must have interim clearance before start date)
- Must possess a valid Maryland Driver’s License
- High school education or equivalent.
- Formal military or trade school, or equivalent on-the-job training commensurate with duties.
- Minimum of 3 years hands‑on experience in welding and fabrication at the journeyman level.
- At least 2 years of total welding experience must be in Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding operations, with those years within the past 4 years.
- Expertise with precision hand tools and measuring instruments related to precision welding and fabrication.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, plans, and project requirements.
- Capable of leading a fabrication team on project efforts to meet cost, schedule, and technical specifications.
- Capable of developing modifications to satisfy project requirements without jeopardizing safety of operations.
- Ability to work tactfully with professional engineers, technicians, and management staff on all levels of effort.
Work Conditions:
Conditions will vary. Capable of working outdoors and occasionally from elevated work platforms with a fall protection harness and in temperatures ranging from 0-120. The position will include: 45% standing, 20% bending, 15% reaching, 5% sitting, 5% walking, and 10% lifting. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
