Preventative Maintenance Youth Apprentice
Position:
Preventative Maintenance Youth Apprentice, Department of School Facilities, Calvert County Public School District, Prince Frederick, Maryland.
Starting Date: Immediately
Position SummaryPerforms preventive maintenance on various mechanical equipment throughout the district, under the supervision and direction of a licensed technician. Implements and carries out all assigned duties to ensure buildings and equipment operate at excellence and are fully available for use.
Reports ToDirector of School Facilities, Supervisor of Maintenance, Supervisor of Operations, or designee.
Education, Certification, and Experience- Must be approved to participate in the Apprenticeship Maryland Program pathway as a current Calvert County Public Schools student.
- Accurate records of preventive maintenance.
- Ability to use tools to complete tasks.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Reading and writing ability.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated success in similar tasks.
- Perform preventive maintenance, minor repairs, and assistance with mechanical equipment: pumps, motors, compressors, bottle fillers, air scrubbers, belt adjustments, oiling, greasing, and cleaning.
- Assist in preventive maintenance of HVAC equipment: exhaust fans, air handling units, unit ventilators, scheduled filter changes.
- Work at elevated heights using ladders, scaffolds, and lifts.
- Lift and move heavy objects; perform manual labor.
- Interpret instructions, drawings, and operating manuals.
- Assist in establishing an equipment inventory per building, including manufacturer, serial number, and model number, and create a database for procurement.
- Maintain professional competence.
- Monitor proper use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain regular, on‑time attendance.
- Interact positively with others and concentrate on tasks.
Perform related work as required or assigned by directors or supervisors.
Physical DemandsRequires moderate physical effort, lifting and carrying objects up to 50 pounds; may require long periods of standing and repetitive lifting.

Terms of EmploymentApprentice assignment. Hours reimbursed at current Maryland State minimum wage rate. Direct deposit encouraged. Salary: $15 per hour.
FLSA StatusExempt.
EvaluationPerformance evaluated per apprenticeship agreement.
Effective Date and End of AssignmentEffective:
July 1, 2026. Assignment ends June 30, 2027, or upon completion of 450 on‑job hours.
Applicants must provide fingerprinting and criminal background investigation, pass a drug screen, and complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) before starting employment.
