Electrical Technician Team Leader

Charles County Government is seeking an experienced Electrical Technician Team Leader to represent, inspire, and empower a team of Electrical Technicians by encouraging them to offer ideas about decisions that affect them, and guide team members to improve work functionality and productivity. Team Leader will perform a wide range of tasks associated with the construction, installation, maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, alteration, and replacement of primary and backup electrical assets such as equipment, systems, and structures.

This position will address and resolve complex preventive maintenance requirements, corrective maintenance issues, and work requests submitted by departments and agencies in a safe, efficient, and quality manner with a strong focus on customer service and in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.

Essential Job Functions
  • Provide guidance, motivation, and support to a team that develops, implements, and executes strategies and goals to achieve better workflow processes, measures, and results.
  • Resolve conflicts between team members and act as a liaison between the team and supervisory management.
  • Assist supervisory personnel with training and providing feedback on performance of Electrical Technicians.
  • Ensure completion of daily assignments and coordinate start times, lunch schedules, and end of shift responsibilities.
  • Verify team members have adequate tools and equipment to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assume and perform the Superintendent's duties and responsibilities during the absence of the Superintendent.
  • Review work orders, plans, specifications, or instructions and study technical drawings and manuals to understand connections and determine work activities. Identify materials and tools required and estimate time needed to complete the work. Purchase or order materials in accordance with county procurement policies and distribute to the appropriate location.
  • Perform mandatory inspections and complex preventive maintenance to maximize the safety, productivity, and life of the assets. Examine the assets for damage, defects, or wear and to determine if additional safety or repair work is required. Document recommended repairs and review asset files to determine whether the asset is covered by manufacturer or vendor warranty.
  • Use testing instruments, visual observation, or other specialized skills and tools to inspect and identify problems, assess operational efficiency, troubleshoot, or recreate situations, and verify customer complaints before work is initiated.
  • Diagnose the cause and related symptoms of any malfunction. Implement appropriate procedures or safeguards if the continued operation of the asset could be hazardous.
  • Adjust, maintain, and repair assets for optimal performance. Install parts and accessories or perform repairs in accordance with the manufacturer's guidelines.
  • Conduct quality control and assurance procedures to confirm the repair is complete and the asset operates safely and reliably.
  • Clear, prepare, and clean work sites, removing any debris in an appropriate manner. May need to temporarily or permanently remove flooring, ceiling tiles, or other coverings to perform or complete work.
  • Construct, install, repair, alter, and replace electrical wiring, equipment, systems, and structures. Measure, cut, strip, splice, bend, and solder wire or cable and thread through conduit inside walls or other concealed areas. Fasten appropriate electrical box for switches or outlets.
  • Connect wires to control panels, circuit breakers, transformers, or other components. Conduct signal quality and connectivity tests.
  • Test wiring and control systems to include but not be limited to lighting, security alarm, smoke detection, and voice-data-video using testing instruments such as ohmmeters and voltmeters to ensure compatibility and safety.
  • Check asset for signs of moisture; excessive heat, noise, or vibration; and unusual odors. Inspect wiring, wiring connections, and fuse blocks for looseness and evidence of short circuiting, overheating, or charring. Tighten loose connections and make any other necessary adjustments.
  • Measure velocity, horsepower, revolutions per minute, amperage, circuity, and voltage to confirm results are within required range or below maximum limit.
  • Coordinate relocation of computer systems and network drops with Department of Fiscal & Administrative Services, Information Technology Division. Install or move wires or cables as needed.
  • Design and evaluate assets to include routing, placement, type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation.
  • Respond to emergencies, transporting any needed tools and parts, and assess the feasibility of performing the repair. Assure adequate precautions are taken until the asset can be repaired or…
