AV Technician, Installation Technician

AV Technician | Part-Time | Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena (UMBC)
The AV Technician is responsible for performing technical work in the audio-visual department; the AV Tech will operate technical media, audio equipment, electronic equipment, and video board/display equipment for events. This role will pay an hourly rate of $15.00. Benefits for Part-Time roles: 401(k) Savings Plan and 401(k) matching. This position will remain open until November 27, 2026.
Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena is located on the campus of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. The 5,000-seat arena is the home to the UMBC Retriever Men's and Women's basketball teams and Women's volleyball. The multipurpose venue is managed by Oak View Group and hosts a variety of events, including concerts, commencements, family shows, community events, consumer shows, featured speakers, and banquets.
Responsibilities- Set up, operate, and tear down all audiovisual equipment in-house, rented, or client-provided.
- Maintain proper working conditions for audio/visual equipment both physically and digitally.
- Maintain inventory of audio/visual equipment and storage areas.
- Troubleshoot audio and visual equipment.
- Report any malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor for further accessing.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external clients.
- Perform job duties with minimal supervision.
- Frequent bending, carrying, moving, climbing, working from various heights, lifting heavy objects, sitting, exposure to moderate to loud environments, and moderate walking throughout the building.
- Other production duties as needed.
- Previous experience in AV installation is preferred.
- Knowledge of common audio, video, and lighting equipment.
- Able to work event-driven extended hours, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to lift heavy objects frequently.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in fast-paced environments.
- Able to work in a team environment as well as independently.
- Must have a strong work ethic and punctuality.
- Must be a creative and proactive problem solver.
- Basic knowledge of basketball and volleyball is required.
- Proficiency with computers, including the Microsoft Office suite, is required.
