Welder​/Fabricator - Maryland

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Shop Welder / Fabricator to work out of our Union Bridge, Maryland shop. This position will support field and shop operations through structural welding, fabrication, equipment repair, and the maintenance and hardfacing of drilling tools and augers.

The ideal candidate is an experienced welder who takes pride in producing safe, high-quality work and is comfortable working with heavy steel, drilling components, structural members, and specialized construction equipment.

A current or qualifying AWS D1.5 welding certification is required for this position.

Responsibilities:

Welding & Fabrication

• Perform stick welding (SMAW) and wire-feed welding as required for shop fabrication and repair work.
• Splice structural beams and other steel members in accordance with applicable welding procedures and project requirements.
• Read and interpret drawings, measurements, layouts, and fabrication details.
• Cut, fit, prepare, weld, and finish steel components.
• Fabricate custom components and modifications for specialized construction and drilling equipment.
• Inspect completed welds and fabricated components for quality and conformance with requirements.
• Maintain proper weld preparation, fit-up, penetration, and overall workmanship.

Hardfacing & Drill Tool Maintenance

• Perform hardfacing of drill tools, augers, and related drilling components to extend service life and maintain performance.
• Inspect returned drill tooling for wear, cracking, damage, and repair requirements.
• Build up and restore worn steel surfaces as required.
• Repair and modify augers, cutting tools, and other drilling components.
• Assist with the replacement and repair of worn components as needed.
• Maintain consistency and quality when applying hardfacing materials to high-wear areas.

Sectional Casing Repair

• Inspect sectional casing returned from field operations.
• Repair damaged or worn casing through welding, cutting, fitting, straightening, and fabrication as appropriate.
• Identify components that should be repaired, returned to service, or removed from service.
• Ensure repaired casing is ready and properly identified for future field use.

Steel Identification & Inventory

• Receive and inspect steel, tooling, casing, and fabricated components returning to the Union Bridge shop from jobsites.
• Identify, mark, label, and organize returned steel so material can be readily located and reused.
• Maintain an accurate working inventory of steel and other designated materials.
• Separate usable material from items requiring repair or disposal.
• Help maintain organized steel storage and fabrication areas.
• Coordinate with shop and field personnel regarding available materials and repair status.

Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following areas is strongly preferred:

• Hardfacing and wear-resistant welding
• Auger and drill tool repair
• Foundation drilling equipment
• Sectional casing repair
• Structural steel fabrication
• Beam splicing
• Heavy construction equipment fabrication and repair
• Welding on equipment used in bridge, foundation, or heavy civil construction

Job Requirements:

• AWS D1.1 Certification
• 2-3 years’ experience

This is a hands-on shop position that requires the ability to work safely around heavy steel, welding equipment, machinery, and construction equipment. The employee must be able to perform the physical duties associated with welding and fabrication, including standing for extended periods, bending, kneeling, positioning welding equipment, handling steel components, and working in various welding positions.

The employee is expected to maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all company, OSHA, welding, and shop safety requirements.
