Social Worker Advanced, Criminal Justice

Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) seeks a Social Worker Advanced, Criminal Justice to provide expert clinical and therapeutic social work services in behavioral health to the most clinically demanding youth within the agency.

• Education:
  
  Determined by the State Board of Social Work Examiners under licensing requirements for Social Workers.
• Experience:
  
  Three years of clinical and therapeutic social work services to clients requiring rehabilitative counseling or forensic social work.
• Notes:
  
  - A Doctorate in social work from an accredited college or university may substitute up to one year of the required experience.
  
  - U.S. Armed Forces military service at the rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher in Social Work classifications or related specialties may substitute the required experience.

• Experience providing clinical services to adolescents with mental health or substance abuse issues.

• Certified Social Worker-Clinical license from the State Board of Social Work Examiners (or pending to be obtained).
• Motor vehicle operator’s license in Maryland for duties requiring vehicle operation.

• Meet mandatory standards for continuing education as required by DJS.
• Complete approved training in group counseling techniques.
• Knowledge of Level I Counseling course certified by the Maryland AIDS Professional Education Center.
• Successfully complete the Entry Level Training Academy from the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions.
