School Social Worker
Position Summary: Assist students with academic learning by providing strategic services that identify and address the social‑emotional–environmental issues that interfere with the educational process. Work with parents/guardians, teachers, school principal, and community resources to implement strategies that promote positive school adjustment and reduce barriers to learning. Provide support in behavior management, conduct staff development, and identify resources as needed.

Education, Certification and Experience- Master’s Degree in Social Work required.
- LCSW‑C Certified Social Worker. Must be licensed by Maryland State Board of Social Worker Examiners prior to appointment.
- A Maryland State Department of Education professional certificate as a School Social Worker.
- At least two years post‑Master’s experience providing clinical social work services with children/adolescents and their families, preferred.
- Experience working with students with severe disabilities, especially those with externalizing behaviors.
- Ability to conduct functional behavioral assessments, develop behavior management plans, and perform risk assessments.
- Ability to conduct adult training sessions in behavior management and maintain confidentiality.
- Strong written and oral communication with students, parents, teachers, and administrators.
- Proficiency with business technology tools (e‑mail, web‑based tools, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).
- Leadership ability in crisis situations.
- Knowledge of community resources, positive behavior supports, assistive technology communication systems, and regulations regarding seclusion, exclusion, and restraint.
- Current certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training (CPI) and Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI) or willingness to obtain training.
- Other qualifications acceptable to Calvert County Public Schools.
- Identify and assess barriers to learning by analyzing factors that affect student adjustment.
- Serve as liaison between families and school to promote collaborative planning.
- Determine and implement behavior strategies.
- Provide individual and group counseling to students.
- Offer parent/guardian educational workshops on child development, stress reduction, discipline, and communication.
- Conduct threat assessments as needed.
- Participate in school‑based team conferences, Section 504 and IEP meetings, and serve as witness in special education mediations.
- Provide crisis intervention services and may lead the school’s Crisis Team.
- Assist with reintegration of students after a crisis.
- Conduct case management and staff development on social‑emotional factors.
- Assist in developing programs promoting parent participation and student engagement.
- Maintain required clinical records and compliance with reporting standards.
- Support families experiencing economic hardship or other personal/environmental variables; conduct home visits if appropriate.
- Conduct classroom observations and develop behavior intervention plans.
- Collaborate with administrators and school staff on interventions.
- Debrief with staff after crisis events.
- Demonstrate behavior interventions for the school‑based team.
- Support student transitions between teachers or schools.
- Serve as liaison with community agencies and locate resources.
- May supervise or monitor behavioral assistants for Medicaid billing.
- Attend professional development and required meetings.
- Arrive promptly each day, meet deadlines, and travel between schools as necessary.
Perform related duties as assigned by Director or Principal.
Physical DemandsRequires moderate physical effort, including lifting up to 50 pounds and physically restraining students during CPI holds.
Unusual DemandsRequires implementation of CPI physical restraint.
Employment StatusExempt under FLSA.
Terms of EmploymentEleven (11) month position with salary commensurate with qualifications, based on the Calvert County Public Schools teacher salary schedule. Payroll deposit encouraged.
EvaluationPerformance evaluated per Calvert County Public Schools evaluation policy.
Effective Date of PositionImmediate opening.
Salary$69,509 to $122,547 per year.
