Family Service Specialist

This is a 12 month grant funded position to begin for the  school year. This program is designed to provide high quality early education for children birth to five while providing comprehensive family support services for families.

Somerset County Public Schools is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Family Service Specialist for the Judy Center. The Judy Center is a grant funded program housed at Princess Anne Elementary School and designed to provide high quality early education for children birth to five while providing comprehensive family support services for families. The Family Service Specialist will work with a team, consisting of a Judy Center Program Coordinator, the Judy Center Supervisor, school, and community members.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following: other duties may be assigned by the Building Principal, Judy Center Coordinator or Judy Center Supervisor.

  • Work with a diverse population of families, community partners and SCPS staff.
  • Work with the Judy Center Coordinator in the planning of the Judy Center playgroups that align with school readiness expectations (utilize the Frog Street Curriculum as appropriate).
  • Coordinate outreach services and plan, carry out and assist families with children birth –age 5, in the Princess Anne catchment area.
  • Conduct home visits and implement the Frog Street Love and Learn curriculum.
  • Conduct monthly family service coordination meetings.
  • Helps families create and meet individual short term and long-term goals. Follow up with families and input family data into data tracking system.
  • Prepare organized case-notes for all established cases.
  • Maintains organized records of activities
  • Works to promote the Judy Center within the community
  • Attends all local and state level Judy Center sponsored programs, as needed.
  • Prepare data portions of the annual, mid-year, end of year and monthly reports for the Judy Center grant as required by MSDE.
  • Maintain confidentiality with regard to Judy Center families and Judy Center staff.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, counseling or early education preferred.
  • At least three years of experience working with children (birth through kindergarten) and/or families including home visiting experience.
