The Position
Under periodic review, applies and enforces the City of Albany's policies and procedures while planning, designing, implementing, maintaining and/or improving assigned engineering functions, systems or projects; monitors all safety requirements' coordinates and maintains productive construction schedules between Engineering with general/business public; answers inquiries and complaints from customers; produces detailed drawings, estimates and specifications for the City of Albany. This position may be assigned to various engineering processes, including, but not limited to civil, systems, signal, and safety operations.
DutiesThe following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Apply and enforce City of Albany's policies and procedures while planning, designing and/or implementing maintenance and improvement projects for the Engineering Department.
- Monitor and enforce all relative safety requirements.
- May coordinate and maintain productive construction schedules between engineering divisions and the general/business public.
- Prepare field/cost estimates, easements, graphs and construction drawings.
- May assist in designing sewers, drainage facilities roads and alleys, etc.
- May assist with calculations with the site plan review process.
- May produce detailed drawings, estimates, specifications and designs for the City of Albany,
- May perform various studies, such as volume, spot speed, travel time and delay, intersection and driveway, traffic access and impact, parking, lighting, etc.
- May conduct field and/or site visits to observe and analyze operations.
- May provide leadership/supervision to field technicians in the construction and maintenance of traffic signals and systems within the city and/or county.
- May be required to respond to emergency calls for various electronic traffic control devices on a 24-hour basis.
- May be responsible for maintaining comprehensive computerized accident report system throughout the City basis.
- Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports detailing in-depth safety analyses in various safety deficient locations and make recommendations for improvements.
- May instruct review and inspect work of contractors and engineering crews.
- Conduct field visits to observe and analyze various engineering crews,

- Contact, negotiate and coordinate projects for engineering considerations with customers, contractors' engineers, department heads and the public.
- Maintain engineering documents, records and files.
- May evaluate the performance of subordinate employees, completing the performance appraisal process or serve in supervisory capacity in the absence of engineering manager.
- Operate a company vehicle.
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum QualificationsAn Associate's Degree or its equivalent in engineering or related area supplemented with three-five years experience in civil, traffic, safety, systems engineering or CAD operations required, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skill and abilities. A Bachelor Degree is highly desirable. Must have a specialized knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil and Electrical Engineering required also, a considerable full range knowledge of generally accepted and commonly used methods, principles and theories rela
