Substitute Position

POSITION SUMMARY:

The teacher aide is under the direct supervision of the teacher. She/he must be able to follow directions, be flexible in dealing with different groups and different personalities, and maintain an open attitude of the role of the teacher aide in relationship to the role of the teacher.

• High school graduate or equivalent. Must be interested in gaining knowledge in child development, mental impairment, general and abnormal psychology.
• CPR and first aid training preferred.
• Past work experience with people who are cognitively impaired. Group home training desirable.
• Valid Michigan driver’s license.
• Must be able to lift students, manipulate wheelchair bound students, including pulling, pushing, bending, stooping and twisting.

• Carry out specific behavioral objectives for students.
• Assist in charting, counting and modifying inappropriate and maladaptive behaviors of some students.
• Assist students in personal self-help skills: toileting, grooming, eating, and dressing, ambulation.
• Assist teacher in pre and post testing of individual students.
• Assist in receiving and delivering students to and from the buses.
• Attend in-service and staff meetings as requested.
• Assist in developing lesson plans and in preparing materials for instructions.
• Follow all rules and regulations identified in the Employee Handbook.

• Collect and record money, forms, notes and other record keeping necessary for the room and the school.
• Assist in the maintenance of classroom and related supplies and materials.
• Assist in the maintenance and general housekeeping of the classroom and school.
• Assist in preparing room, bulletin boards and display cases for the room and center.

Position Type:
Temporary, on-call basis, substitute position.

Salary Range:
Based on District annual daily substitute rate.
