Position Overview
The Packaging Engineer will join a dynamic R&D team responsible for the development, testing, qualification, and commercialization of packaging systems for the industry leader in consumer lawn and garden products. The role focuses on the Controls portfolio and supporting products.
Key Responsibilities- Lead complex cross‑functional teams in the commercialization of new consumer packaged goods.
- Take full ownership of concept design, refinement, timeline development, testing, optimization, data collection, and creation of robust technical specifications.
- Develop innovative packaging solutions for the consumer Controls space, including outdoor display products and sustainably designed solutions for next‑generation pest and weed control applications.
- Partner with packaging suppliers, R&D, Quality, Supply Chain, and Marketing to ensure alignment and drive technical excellence through pre‑commercial scale‑up and launch.
- Develop advanced conceptual designs and prototypes that enhance the user experience; identify end‑user requirements and pitch new product ideas to the business.
- Utilize Root Cause Analysis (RCA), quality tools, and data‑driven decision‑making to prevent and resolve complex quality issues, supply chain disruptions, and manufacturing hurdles.
- Develop and conduct rigorous packaging and product testing standards to improve success rates; maintain a deep understanding of corrugated, rigid, and flexible (film) packaging.
- Manage project resources and budgets from conception to implementation; work directly with manufacturing partners to troubleshoot and implement equipment that enables new packaging technologies.
Skills & Qualifications
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA) – required.
- Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA) – highly preferred.
- Proficiency in palletization software (TOPS or Cape Palletization Software) – highly preferred.
- Technical literacy: ability to interpret and review 2D/3D technical drawings – required.
- Proficiency in MS Office and Google Docs Suites – required.
- SAP PLM – preferred.
B.S. in Packaging Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field. 3–7 years of progressive experience in packaging development or closely related fields, ideally within the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry.
CompensationStarting budgeted pay range: $77,200.00 – $90,800.00 per year.
