Grinder Trainee

8 hour shift Monday to Friday Weekend Availability

BTM Company is seeking a Grinder Trainee to join our manufacturing team. This is an entry-level opportunity for individuals interested in developing precision machining skills and building a long-term career in the skilled trades.

The Grinder Trainee will work alongside experienced machinists to learn how to operate grinding equipment, inspect parts, and produce high-quality components to specification.

Key Responsibilities

• Learn to operate grinding machines (surface grinders, centerless grinders, Blanchard, etc.)
• Assist in producing precision parts with a focus on quality and accuracy
• Perform basic inspections, including first-piece and in-process checks
• Learn to read and interpret blueprints and part drawings
• Use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges
• Support basic machine setup and routine maintenance
• Accurately track production in BTM’s ERP system
• Follow all safety and quality (QMS) requirements
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• High school diploma or GED (or currently enrolled in a high school or technical program)
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude (through work, school, or hands‑on experience)
• Experience using tools, equipment, or working in a shop or manufacturing environment
• Ability to use or learn precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges)
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Reliable attendance and work history
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs

Preferred Qualifications

• Trade school coursework or technical training in machining, manufacturing, or a related field
• Enrollment in or completion of a skilled trades or CNC program
• Exposure to shop equipment, machining processes, or precision part production
• Experience reading part drawings or working from prints
• Familiarity with precision measuring tools
