LocationBTM Company is seeking a Grinder Trainee to join our manufacturing team. This is an entry-level opportunity for individuals interested in developing precision machining skills and building a long-term career in the skilled trades.
The Grinder Trainee will work alongside experienced machinists to learn how to operate grinding equipment, inspect parts, and produce high-quality components to specification.
Key Responsibilities
- Learn to operate grinding machines (surface grinders, centerless grinders, Blanchard, etc.)
- Assist in producing precision parts with a focus on quality and accuracy
- Perform basic inspections, including first-piece and in-process checks
- Learn to read and interpret blueprints and part drawings
- Use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges
- Support basic machine setup and routine maintenance
- Accurately track production in BTM’s ERP system
- Follow all safety and quality (QMS) requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or GED (or currently enrolled in a high school or technical program)
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude (through work, school, or hands‑on experience)
- Experience using tools, equipment, or working in a shop or manufacturing environment
- Ability to use or learn precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Reliable attendance and work history
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
Preferred Qualifications
- Trade school coursework or technical training in machining, manufacturing, or a related field
- Enrollment in or completion of a skilled trades or CNC program
- Exposure to shop equipment, machining processes, or precision part production
- Experience reading part drawings or working from prints
- Familiarity with precision measuring tools
