Electrical Engineering Co-op/Intern – Fall 2026

This job description reflects potential openings for the Fall 2026 Co-op/Internship Session (August - December). This is a general job description and represents multiple openings in various departments. Honda offers both single and multi-semester co-ops and internships. College students must apply to the requisition pertaining to their major and semester of interest.

The below descriptions reflect potential environments and duties within our various Electrical Engineering Co-op/Intern positions that we offer. Work environments and projects may include but are not limited to:

  • Manufacturing
    • Focus on equipment, process, quality and new model activities related to the department of placement (i.e Assembly department, Weld department, Paint department, Stamping department, Casting and Machining department, etc)
    • Project management
    • Problem analysis
    • Investigating new technologies and implementing countermeasures
  • Quality
    • Learning and performing vehicle testing
    • Conducting tests for chassis, brakes, controls, bonnet, trunk and/ or door systems
    • Testing procedures and fixtures
    • New model development, drawing, layouts and design change requests
    • Investigating and providing countermeasures for mass production design related issues
    • Warranty data trend analysis
    • Re-creating problem failures to determine root cause, develop countermeasures and perform confirmation testing
  • Facilities
    • Updating and documenting computer aided design drawings of existing infrastructure
    • Analyzing and designing existing sanitation, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and building pressure systems
    • Developing short and long-term solutions to problems found
    • Designing modifications of existing facilities infrastructures
    • Updating mechanical engineering specifications and standards
    • Reviewing electrical drawings
    • Learning and understanding plant power infrastructure
    • Verifying electrical panel schedules
    • Updating high bay light locations
  • Tooling Equipment
    • Designing manufacturing equipment and tooling in 2D and 3D computer aided design systems
    • Determining equipment electrical hardware, software (Programmable Logic Controller, Human-Machine Interface, etc.), safety requirements and appropriate design
    • Managing a schedule and tracking daily processes
    • Investigating and troubleshooting problems during installation and manufacturing
  • Research and Design
    • Assisting design engineers in developing/ designing automotive electrical wire harness and components of future models
    • Supporting the creation of drawings
    • Computer aided design
    • Cost and weight calculations
    • Attending meetings and working with various design/ test groups, suppliers, manufacturing groups, etc.
    • Supporting the development of testing automotive electrical systems (infotainment, chassis, engine, power window, sunroof, power tailgate, power slide door systems and safety systems)
      • This will also include assisting with problem and data analysis, countermeasures, test set-up, data acquisition, test monitoring, recording activities, performance testing and reporting result

    What you need to be successful in this role

    Required:

    • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
    • General Engineering Coursework
    • Minimum 2.5 Cumulative GPA or higher (You will be required to provide your current transcript)
    • Class status
      - Sophomore (by credit hour) or above
    • Availability to work a minimum of 10 weeks at 40 hours per week
    • Enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program studying Electrical Engineering or related field
    • Valid U.S. Driver's License (exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis)
    • Ability to secure own transportation to and from work each day
      • * Public transportation and ride share services are limited in some of our locations. Co-ops are responsible for securing their own transportation to and from work each day, and must have a reliable plan for transportation in order to be eligible for a position.…
