The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is tasked with front line crime reduction through rehabilitative treatment and programming in a safe, secure and humane correctional environment and effective community supervision. What You’ll Do

This position works under general supervision and requires considerable knowledge of auto mechanics:

  • Repairs and replaces major parts of systems on vehicles and equipment
  • Performs preventive maintenance and service (e.g., tunes gas and/or diesel engines, inspects engines for leaks, worn components, fluid levels, belt and hose conditions and mounting)
  • Inspects underbody for leaks, loose or worn components in suspension, steering and/or drive train
  • Inspects brakes for wear, proper adjustments, fluids and leaks; changes fluids; inspects electronic system scope
  • Repairs, rebuilds and/or replaces major parts (carburetor, alternator, water or fuel pump, clutches, brake systems, exhaust systems)
  • Performs minor repairs or miscellaneous mechanic work (tires/wheels, diesel injectors, valves, body repair, shocks, hydraulic systems, snowplow blades, other repairs)
  • Maintains records of repairs and maintenance
  • Orders and/or picks up parts
  • Provides service and repair on an emergency basis and/or makes onsite service/outpost calls
  • Operates welding equipment to repair vehicles and equipment
  • Mows grass and/or operates snowplow, tow truck or other equipment
  • Pumps gasoline; attends training schools and annual training
  • Serves on committees and attends meetings
Qualifications

24 months of experience in automotive repair & maintenance of a variety of vehicles or equipment. The final applicant may be required to submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use. An applicant with a positive test will not be offered employment, per Ohio Revised Code Sections 3719.01 & 3719.41. Valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of a type and size regulated by Ohio Revised Code Sections 4506.01 & 4506.12.
