Our client is seeking an experienced Shop Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of a heavy-duty diesel maintenance facility supporting a fleet of Class 8 tractors and specialized equipment. This individual will oversee shop technicians, parts operations, preventative maintenance programs, equipment repairs, regulatory compliance, and overall fleet readiness. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on leader with extensive diesel maintenance experience who thrives in a fast‑paced transportation environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all daily shop operations to ensure fleet equipment is repaired, maintained, and available to support business operations.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop shop technicians and parts personnel while promoting a culture of accountability and safety.
  • Prioritize and assign repair work based on operational needs, technician skill sets, and equipment availability.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules and oversee major repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor employee attendance, scheduling, overtime, and overall shop productivity.
  • Oversee inventory levels, parts ordering, warranty claims, and vendor relationships.
  • Review completed repairs for quality and ensure outside vendor work meets company standards.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues on heavy‑duty diesel equipment.
  • Address driver‑reported equipment concerns and ensure timely resolution.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, inspection reports, and service documentation.
  • Commission new equipment and oversee equipment readiness for service.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, environmental, and company safety standards.
  • Investigate maintenance‑related incidents and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Maintain shop organization, cleanliness, and safe working conditions.
  • Manage the operation and regulatory compliance of the company's diesel fueling system.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations and Maintenance leadership to maximize fleet performance and reliability.
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience maintaining and repairing Class 8 tractors and heavy‑duty diesel equipment.
  • Previous leadership experience managing a fleet maintenance shop or supervising diesel technicians.
  • Strong understanding of diesel engine diagnostics, preventative maintenance, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
  • Experience with Cummins and Paccar electronic diagnostic platforms.
  • Ability to prioritize work in a fast‑paced transportation environment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience managing work orders, maintenance records, warranty programs, and parts inventory.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and computerized maintenance systems.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Class A CDL
  • Experience working with Peterbilt equipment
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and fleet compliance
  • Experience using fleet maintenance software such as Cetaris
  • Experience with Samsara telematics and fleet management systems
What We're Looking For

We're looking for a proactive maintenance leader who enjoys being on the shop floor as much as managing people and processes. This individual should have the technical expertise to support technicians, the leadership ability to build a high‑performing team, and the organizational skills to keep a busy fleet operating safely and efficiently. Success in this role requires someone who can balance hands‑on problem solving with strategic planning while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and operational excellence.
