Job Summary

This position is responsible for managing staffing, hiring, training, scheduling, and performance oversight for the child nutrition department. Ensure efficient daily operations, compliance with federal and state regulations, and high-quality meal service. The role also oversees program administration and financial operations and coordination with district leadership and the food service management company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Screen, interview, and recommend candidates for hire for all child nutrition department staff.
  • Work with district leadership to maintain employee and kitchen schedules to meet operational and student service needs.
  • Evaluate child nutrition staff performance in accordance with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Develop, establish, and communicate child nutrition standard operating procedures.
  • Collaborate with kitchen managers and food service staff to resolve operational concerns and improve services.
  • Develop and oversee child nutrition staff training, including all required USDA, OSPI, DOH, and other mandatory training, with retraining as necessary.
  • Audit financial compliance for cash receipts, deposits, and reporting within Skyward and point-of-sale systems.
  • Train and supervise food service staff in daily operations, including cash handling and payment procedures.
  • Monitoring of compliance for special dietary accommodations and student allergies.
  • Monitor and evaluate child nutrition program effectiveness and operations to ensure compliance with federal, state, district, OSPI, State Auditor’s Office, and local health department standards and regulations.
  • Conduct on-site reviews, inspections, monitoring, and oversight activities to ensure program compliance.
  • Collaborate with the contracted food service management company to ensure compliance with meal pattern and menu planning requirements.
  • Work cooperatively with kitchens and warehouse staff to ensure timely product delivery and resolution of shortages or substitutions.
  • Review and approve timesheets for child nutrition staff.
  • Review meal counts, month-end Skyward reports, and state claim documentation to ensure accurate claims and reimbursements in collaboration with the Child Nutrition Specialist and District Finance Team.
  • Oversee applications and renewals for child nutrition programs in coordination with the Child Nutrition Specialist and Executive Director of Finance.
  • Identify and communicate department budget needs; approve and track expenditures.
  • Monitor purchases, storage, inventory, and use of food service supplies and equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with the food service management company to support balanced budgets for both the district and management company.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
