The Marysville School District seeks a Senior Naval Science Instructor (SNSI) to join a two-instructor team for its successful Navy Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (NJROTC) program. The ideal candidate will be a dedicated and highly motivated professional to collaborate with an experienced Naval Science Instructor (NSI) and oversee a distinguished unit. The program, established in 1995, has a strong track record of excellence, consistently achieving the "Distinguished Unit with honors" designation.
The district and community provide exceptional support for the unit and its cadets.
Salary:
Compensation pays above Navy minimum (per Marysville Education Association Negotiated Salary Schedule).
Qualifications
* Applicants must be a retired Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard officer certified by the Navy for the SNSI position in grades W-2 through O-6.
* Must be able to collaborate effectively as part of a two-instructor team, with the current NSI being a highly knowledgeable retired Navy Chief Petty Officer with 13 years of experience at the school.
* Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, is required.
Key Responsibilities
* Instruction and Mentoring:
Teach the Naval Science curriculum and instruct cadets in military drill, providing mentorship and counseling to students.
* Program Management:
Serve as an integral member of the instructional team, sharing administrative and leadership duties.
* Cadet
Activities:
Supervise and travel with cadets to support numerous extracurricular teams, including Armed and Unarmed Drill, Color Guards, Academic, Physical Fitness, Air Rifle, Orienteering, Cyber Patriots, and Drones.
* Event Support:
Work before and after school and on some weekends to support cadet activities, competitions, school functions, and community events.
* Program Outreach:
Promote and support a district program that serves more than 140 cadets from three different high schools.
The current SNSI who established the unit will provide turn-over training. This position is a year round commitment. As a Mastery-Based Learning school:
All teachers will be expected to implement culturally relevant pedagogy and competency-based practices. Teachers will be expected to design their instruction, assessment, and grading to reflect competency-based learning using rubric-style feedback loops. All assessments will be designed in reference to a set of common learning indicators and scoring criteria.
Qualifications:
Valid Washington State Teacher CTE teaching certificate or be highly experienced in the knowledge and occupation skills of the CTE program to be certified. A total of 6,000 hours of experience is needed. 2,000 hours must be occupational industry experience (nonteaching). You may use up to 4,000 hours of teaching experience in the related Career and Technical Education specialty program area(s).
If any of the 2,000 hours is more than six years old, 300 hours of industry experience is needed in the past two years.

The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is confined to a work area; required to have precise control of fingers and hand movements; experiences constant interruptions and inflexible deadlines; and must be able to stoop, crouch, crawl, bend, kneel, stand for periods of time, and lift in order to assist a student with personal care.
The employee is required to deal with distraught and/or angry persons and is exposed to infectious diseases carried by children. The noise level in the work environment is acceptable to this particular environment and can vary depending upon daily activity but will remain within acceptable ranges.
