Here at Scotts Miracle‑Grove there is no such thing as a typical day. Our culture is constantly energized by new and exciting growth opportunities and at a rapid pace. The Lead, Master Data Management (MDM) and Governance Lead serves as the enterprise data leader for a large‑scale SAP S/4
HANA transformation. This role is critical to ensuring data integrity, standardization, and governance as the organization transitions from highly customized legacy systems to a cloud‑based, clean‑core ERP environment, reporting to the Director of Data Governance.
- Master Data Strategy & Design Leadership – Assist in defining and executing the enterprise master data strategy, including high‑level design and future‑state governance aligned to SAP S/4
HANA best practices; champion the "Clean Core" strategy by enforcing standardized data models and driving the reduction of legacy custom objects; ensure alignment between data architecture, business process design, and long‑term ERP sustainability. - Matrix Team Leadership & Cross‑Functional Alignment – Provide solid‑line leadership, coaching, and performance management for data stewards; manage effective dotted‑line relationships with functional BPOs to ensure master data supports operational and regulatory needs; facilitate collaboration between data teams and functional process owners to prevent silos and conflicting requirements.
- Data Transformation, Quality, and Tooling Execution – Lead enterprise data transformation activities, including data profiling, cleansing, validation, and readiness; partner with Process Architects to leverage Signavio insights, identifying data‑driven process breakdowns and prioritizing remediation efforts; drive initiatives to retire obsolete legacy data in partnership with enterprise.
- Migration & Testing Oversight – Collaborate with IT and System Integrators to plan and execute data loads for testing cycles, mock conversions, and production migrations; lead the validation of data accuracy and completeness during environment builds and cloud migration planning activities; ensure data readiness for major program milestones and cutover events.
- Change Management & Sustainment – Define the post‑go‑live master data operating model, including roles, governance forums, and decision workflows; partner with Organizational Change Management (OCM) teams to support training and adoption for Super Users and business stakeholders; embed sustainable data governance practices to support long‑term business performance and system stability.
- Matrix Leadership – Proven ability to lead teams in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments with solid and dotted‑line accountability.
- SAP S/4
HANA Expertise – Strong understanding of S/4
HANA master data concepts, including Business Partner (BP) and Material Master structures. - Data Transformation Tools – Experience with data migration and governance tools such as Syniti; familiarity with process mining tools such as Signavio preferred.
- Strategic Influence – Ability to influence senior leaders and drive adoption of standardized data practices across the enterprise.
- Data Governance – Demonstrated experience establishing enterprise data governance models, councils, and decision workflows.
- Education – Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Supply Chain, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience – 7–10 years of experience, including leadership of master data work streams in large‑scale ERP transformations (greenfield or brownfield).
- Certifications – CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) or SAP Master Data certification and Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred.
The starting budgeted pay range for this role will generally fall between $ – $ per year. Scotts will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location. In addition to the determined base salary, this role is also incentive eligible under our corporate bonus programs. For remote roles where the final candidate resides in Alaska, California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, Oregon, or Washington, state required pay thresholds will be factored into base salary.
