Aircraft Composite Lay-Up Technician
The Aircraft Composite Lay-Up Technician constructs aircraft structural parts by laying up resin-infused carbon fiber in a precise sequence prior to autoclave processing, following detailed engineering drawings and company specifications. This non-entry-level role focuses on producing high-quality composite components through careful material handling, accurate documentation, and adherence to established manufacturing standards.
Responsibilities- Construct aircraft structural components by laying up resin-infused carbon fiber in the correct sequence as defined by engineering drawings and company specifications.
- Follow company specifications, work instructions, engineering prints, and work orders to perform all tasks accurately and consistently.
- Document all materials used in the process, including tracking out times of cold-stored materials, to maintain full traceability.
- Build structural components using vacuum bagging techniques with resin systems and carbon fiber reinforcements.
- Identify and clearly communicate defects in tooling to ensure timely correction and prevent quality issues.
- Meet takt time requirements while consistently maintaining the specified level of product quality.
- Safely handle various regulated materials used in the composite lay-up and curing process.
- Carefully handle raw materials and manufactured parts to ensure integrity and quality are not compromised during handling or processing.
- Protect and maintain the confidentiality of proprietary products and processes at all times.
- Adapt to changing business conditions and product needs by productively reacting and performing other essential tasks as assigned now or in the future.
- Perform production, machine operation, general labor, assembly, inspection, and related tasks as needed to support the manufacturing process.
- Use hand tools and follow blueprints to assemble and inspect components in accordance with engineering requirements.
- Work effectively with varying tasks that may change slightly based on the specific products produced at the division.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow engineering blueprints and prints.
- Ability to adhere to detailed work instructions, company specifications, and work orders.
- Competence in constructing composite aircraft structures using resin systems with carbon fiber reinforcements.
- Experience with vacuum bagging processes for composite structural components.
- Ability to identify, document, and communicate defects in tooling and materials.
- Capability to meet takt times while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Skill in safely handling regulated materials used in composite manufacturing.
- Ability to handle raw materials and finished parts carefully to preserve integrity and quality.
- Ability to understand and communicate in English at a level necessary for successful job performance.
- Internal experience sufficient to have completed the introductory period, indicating familiarity with internal processes and standards.
- Non-entry-level experience in a production, machine operation, assembly, inspection, or general labor environment.
Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Ability to operate and comprehend data using the Windows Operating System.
- Experience with manufacturing resource planning systems such as M3 and Royal 5.
- Familiarity with Smar Team or similar product data management software.
- Comfort with production, machine operating, general labor, assembly, inspection, and blueprint interpretation.
- Proven ability to use hand tools safely and effectively in a manufacturing setting.
- Willingness and ability to adapt to varying tasks based on different products produced within the division.
- Willingness to travel on a minor basis when required.
- Flexibility to work protracted or irregular hours when business needs require.
- Openness to potential relocation to another facility if required by business needs.
