Opened in 1988, our Marysville location is the largest site of the Smith Gardens family consisting of 60 acres, with 500,000 square feet of greenhouse space. Marysville is the primary site for perennial production, but also grows mums, hanging baskets and annuals.

The Selecting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all plant selecting activities at the facility. This role ensurestimelyandaccurateorder fulfillment bymaintaininghigh standards of quality, efficiency, and teamwork. The Supervisor is expected to lead and motivate the department team, promote a positive work environment, and ensure compliance with safety and operational procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Supervise daily selecting activities and ensure plants meet quality specifications and SOP standards.
  • Anticipate workload and plan labor, racks, and material needs for current and upcoming shifts.
  • Communicate plant shortages, overages, or quality concerns to relevant departments.
  • Coordinate crop consolidation opportunities tooptimizeproduct flow and space usage.
  • Collaborate with Shipping and Inventory teams to confirm product pull locations and workflow alignment.
  • Review selecting summaries,assigning crews, anddeterminingappropriate workload distribution.
  • Monitor and guide plant movement fromselectingthe staging area for smooth transitions.
  • Train and develop team members, reinforcing best practices and company standards.
  • Track productivity rates and communicate performance results to employees and management.
  • Monitor employee timekeeping and break compliance.
  • Support and implement Continuous Improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Promote proper handling and movement ofproductsto minimize damage.
  • Foster a strong safety culture by ensuring safety protocols are followed,and concerns are addressed promptly.
  • Provide support and serve as backup in other departmental roles as needed.
  • Collaborate with and provide backup support to team members across the departments to meet operational goals and deadlines.
  • Comfortable learning andoperatingboth proprietary and external computer systems.
  • Coordinate closely with the Production coordinator to receive and process orders from different vendors and inter-site transfers both in the system and physically on the dock, ensuring accuracy andtimelyexecution.
  • Unload and load trucks during the day, reverse trailers, and coordinate activities on the dock.
  • Oversee and manage recycling processes within thePlant

    Shiparea, ensuring proper handling of recyclable materials andmaintainingcleanliness and organization standards.
  • Work proactively with the Production Supervisor toanticipatelabor needs, helping plan andallocatelabor resources based ondemand and operational priorities.
  • Coordinate ordering and restocking of materials and supplies, including Amazon, Office Depotand Uline, ensuring availability of necessary resources for daily operations.
  • Maintainaccurateinventory of used material in Shipping.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
  • 1–3 years of supervisory or team lead experience in a production, agriculture, or distribution environment preferred.
  • Experience in plant selection, greenhouse, or shipping operations is highly desirable.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Basicproficiencywith Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn internal systems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to walk, bend, kneel, reach overhead and side-to-side, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the day.
  • Must be able tolift upto 50 pounds as needed.
