EMPLOYMENT TERMS :
Temporary, Part-Time, Adjunct PRIMARY DUTY:

The Music Program, housed in the School of Fine and Performing Arts, invites applications for a part-time, adjunct position in applied saxophone instruction. The teaching assignment will include undergraduate applied saxophone lessons during the fall and spring terms and are located on the Maryville campus. Lesson times are flexible.

Placement in the adjunct faculty pool does not guarantee a teaching assignment. Assignments are made on a session-by-session basis according to program need and are based on the candidate’s verified academic credentials and content expertise.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Design and deliver quality face-to-face instruction in Applied Saxophone to music majors (BA and BME) and non-music majors, instructing them in the basic techniques of performing and teaching across classical, commercial, and jazz idioms.

Prepare applied students for senior recitals and final performance exams (juries) according to Program expectations.

Actively participate in recruiting music students.

Maintain accurate course records and submit grades and other required documentation by established deadlines.

Follow university, departmental and course policies and procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Earned master’s degree in Music Performance, Theory, History, Jazz Studies, or Music Education Certification/License : none

Experience:

Demonstrated success teaching in studio, classroom, large-group, and online settings with students representing a range of abilities and levels of preparation.

Skills:

Demonstrated innovative teaching methodologies to engage learners; instructional technology skills; interpersonal skills, including oral communication and collaboration; committed to a focus onstudent success

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Collaborative academic environment in a Fine and Performing Arts School at a regional, comprehensive university. Faculty are expected to use Canvas, an online learning management system.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervise student employees as assigned.

EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED:

Laptop computer, software/online course and information management systems as needed, university instruments.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to lift and carry 20 pounds and perform the essential functions of the position in classroom.
