Starting Salary Expectations: $42,366 -$46,603; with starting salary determined based on relevant experience, qualifications, and demonstrated competencies.

Position Purpose
The Prevention & Wellness Education Specialist advances Maryville College's Bridges to Wellness initiative by leading evidence-based prevention education, resilience-building programming, and campus/community training partnerships focused on substance misuse prevention and student wellbeing. This role serves as the College's primary educator and program lead for proactive wellness strategies, while also supporting grant compliance, outcome tracking, and sustainability planning.
SUMMARY
The Prevention & Wellness Education Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating campus-wide prevention education related to opioids, alcohol, and other substances. The Specialist develops workshops and skill-building programs that help students strengthen healthy coping strategies, manage stress and anxiety, and build resilience in support of academic and personal success.
This position serves as the primary lead for prevention outreach and training under the Bridges to Wellness grant and is responsible for program documentation, reporting, and partnership coordination. The Specialist may provide limited back-up counseling support or referral assistance as needed.
Education and Experience required to ensure success in this position:
Education Required
* Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, Health Education, or a closely related field
Experience Required
* Minimum of 2 years of experience in prevention education, wellness programming, counseling services, or student support initiatives (higher education preferred)
* Demonstrated experience developing and facilitating workshops and training for young adults or college populations
* Experience working in substance misuse prevention, recovery support, or mental health promotion
* Experience with grant-supported programming, assessment, or reporting strongly preferred
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Leadership and Collaboration
* Serve as the College's primary prevention education and wellness training lead under the Bridges to Wellness initiative
* Develop collaborative partnerships with faculty, staff, student leaders, and community organizations to expand prevention and wellness services
* Coordinate prevention education efforts with Counseling Center clinicians, Student Affairs, Residence Life, and other campus stakeholders
* Support peer-led wellness and recovery support initiatives through training and oversight
* Represent the Counseling Center in campus-wide wellbeing and prevention initiatives
