This position requires working 3 consecutive 12-hour night shifts. Floating to other like units may be required. Weekend coverage is required every other weekend, but this may change based on need. The patient population includes higher oxygen demands, dialysis patients, atrial fibrillation, and post-heart catheterization. The unit is a step down from ICU, with no vents or pressor support. Allowed drips include heparin, cardizem, amiodarone, and sotalol initiation.
Telemetry monitoring is part of the responsibilities. Knowledge and experience with BiPAP/CPAP management and blood product administration are essential. The nurse will be responsible for central line care, chest tube management, and continuous bladder irrigation. Management of dysrhythmias and cardiac telemetry is required. The nurse will need to start and maintain IVs, and manage post-cardiac angiogram and post-myocardial infarction patients.
The position requires caring for patients pre and post-hemodialysis. Collaborative interdisciplinary support will be available in the unit. Patient ratios are 6 patients per nurse on day, night, and weekend shifts. Staff is required to float to other units and campuses based on census requirements. Compliance with organizational policies is mandatory.
