Mashpee Middle-High School – School Counselor

Job Summary

Mashpee Middle High School is seeking a compassionate, student‑centered and professionally driven school counselor to support students in grades 7-9 during a critical stage of academic, social, and emotional development. The ideal candidate will foster a safe, inclusive environment while helping students build resilience, self‑awareness, and strong interpersonal skills. The counselor will provide equitable opportunities, supports, and scaffolds for all students to meet or exceed high expectations.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in School Counseling, Counseling Psychology, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid and current Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) certification/licensure as a School Counselor.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; exceptional organizational and caseload management capabilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student well‑being, with an ability to build trusting, professional relationships with a diverse student body and community.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing evidence‑based school counseling practices, SEL frameworks, and trauma‑informed counseling techniques.
  • Familiarity with modern college and career readiness planning tools tailored for early secondary school adolescents.
Terms of Employment
  • Reports to the Director of Counseling and College and Career Readiness and Principal.
  • This position is fully covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the Mashpee School Committee and the Mashpee Teachers' Association (MTA) Unit

  • The work year includes the base 184‑day school year plus at least ten (10) additional days scheduled by the building principal (totaling a minimum of 194 working days). Compensation for the 10 extended workdays is calculated at the counselor’s daily per diem rate.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and small‑group counseling for students addressing academic, personal, social, and emotional needs.
  • Offer academic and career counseling, collaborating with leadership, administration, and student support teams to develop, implement, and support individual graduation and developmental pathways.
  • Support students through intermediate‑to‑middle and middle‑to‑high school transition planning.
  • Respond to student crises immediately, providing appropriate internal or external therapeutic and community referrals.
  • Deliver a proactive developmental counseling curriculum focusing on academic/technical, career readiness, and personal/social development.
  • Deliver classroom counseling lessons on critical adolescent topics such as emotional wellness, conflict resolution, organization, and goal setting.
  • Partner closely with teachers, administrators, families, and outside agencies to ensure holistic student success.
  • Participate actively in student support teams, parent‑teacher conferences, and school‑wide wellness initiatives.
  • Monitor student progress, analyze academic/behavioral interventions, assist in student scheduling, and maintain strict, confidential counseling records.
