Surgical Technologist, Outpt Surgery Center (Per Diem)
Purpose of Position:
Works under the supervision of the Manager and Surgeon to facilitate a safe, effective, and orderly operating room, maximizing patient safety.
- Prepares the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, sterile drapes, and solutions.
- Scrubs arms and hands, and assists the surgical team in putting on gloves, masks, and clothing.
- Passes instruments and sterile supplies to surgeon and assistants during surgery.
- Holds retractors, cuts sutures, passes needles, supplies, and instruments.
- Counts sponges, needles, and instruments before and after operation.
- Prepares, cares for, and disposes of specimens taken for laboratory analysis.
- Uses preference cards to ensure appropriate instrumentation and equipment.
- Assists in transporting patients to the operating room and positions them on the table.
- Uses appropriate sterilization methods for special equipment and instruments.
- Operates sterilizers, adjusts lights, suction, and assists with diagnostic equipment as needed.
- Under the direction of the surgeon and registered nurse, accurately and safely prepares and labels medications during the surgical procedure.
- Assists in transferring patients to the recovery area.
- Assists with turnover and restocking the operating room for the next procedure.
- Assumes responsibility for orienting new operating room employees as required.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Graduate of an accredited civilian or military operating room technologist/surgical technologist program.
- BLS certification required within 3 months of entering the position.
- Must meet at least one of the following qualifications:
- Certified by an entity accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies and recognized by both the American College of Surgeons and the Association of Surgical Technologists, and must maintain certification.
- Obtain national certification within 12 months of graduation and maintain certification.
- Have been employed as a surgical technologist in a surgical facility on July 1, 2013.
- Have completed a training program for surgical technology in any U.S. armed forces branch or the U.S. Public Health Service and become certified within one year of start date, and maintain certification.
Per diem hours, rotating days Monday‑Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM, no weekends or holidays.
LocationMassachusetts – Mashpee. Department: MAC-Cape Cod Surgery Center.
CompensationHourly: $23.79 – $29.75. This reflects the anticipated range for new hires; actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skill set, and education, and does not include the value of benefits.
