Specialty Operations business unit is accepting online applications for the position of Biodiesel Operator, Nights at Mason City, IA through August 7th, 2026 (CT).

Responsibilities
  • Support operation policy to eliminate recordable incidents or injuries.
  • Utilize proper personal protective equipment (PPE) to accomplish job tasks.
  • Identify hazardous conditions, manage hazardous waste, and alert management to potential hazards.
  • Locate and correct noticeable odors, leaks, or visible emissions.
  • Prepare equipment for mechanical repairs, perform lockout/tagout, and assist with repairs as needed.
  • Assist with general facility maintenance and housekeeping, including equipment inspection and monitoring.
  • Maintain a clean work environment throughout the process.
  • Follow standard safety, operational, and quality procedures.
  • Assist in load‑out and receiving functions, preparing trucks and rail cars for shipment and loading products (oils, fats, process ingredients, and chemicals).
  • Manufacture and load specialty oil products and properly document work completed.
  • Monitor operating equipment (pumps, valves, pressure/temperature readings, fans, and chemical treatment systems) to control process variables.
  • Assist with weekly and monthly inspections of rotating equipment and safety equipment such as fire monitors, fire extinguishers, and hoses.
  • Operate forklift, pallet jack, skid loader, and telehandler.
  • Learn chemical and biodiesel processing and BQ‑9000 quality requirements.
  • Read drawings and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&).
  • Operate the biodiesel master control system, main master control, and process production system; record data with PI entries promptly.
  • Perform minor mechanical repairs.
  • Perform quality control functions for oil, biodiesel, glycerin, recovered fatty acid, and water.
  • Conduct visual inspection and periodic physical inventory measurement, including work at heights.
  • Operate lab equipment to ensure sample quality.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous chemical processing or related experience preferred.
  • General computer knowledge and good communication skills.
  • Willingness to work in extreme outdoor elements.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic and its application.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 6–12 months of general work experience preferred.
  • Availability to work and overtime as required.
Physical Considerations

Maneuvering up to 600 lbs with a handcart is required. The job demands work at heights, exposure to moving machinery and vehicles, driving automotive equipment, and wearing personal protective equipment such as respiratory protection, mask, face shield, hard hat, gloves, flame‑resistant clothing, goggles, safety glasses, earplugs, etc. It also involves tolerance to extended physical effort and exposure to chemicals and hazardous materials.

Exposures
  • Methanol, sodium or potassium methylate, vegetable oil and animal fats, neutralizing acids, caustic soda, methyl esters, fatty acids, glycerin, surfactants, dyes, scents, dust, water, dirt, weather, temperature extremes, and medium to high noise levels.
