Unit Educator-Cardiac Stepdown

Position Purpose

This position is responsible for promoting improved patient care outcomes through coordinating orientation, education, evaluation, and ongoing development of all support, technical, and nursing colleagues. The role combines direct patient care and unit‑based education (approximately 50/50). It accepts responsibility and accountability for the delivery of patient care with the multidisciplinary team while using the nursing process and maintaining professional nursing standards.

Full time, 36 hours weekly. Rotating shift schedule.

• Coordinate and facilitate orientation activities in collaboration with preceptor, clinical leader, and director.
• Facilitate and provide educational and clinical experiences for colleagues to develop and maintain skills and competencies.
• Serve as a validator, super‑user, and/or trainer for annual competencies, equipment, processes, standard work, etc.
• Maintain accurate unit‑based education records.
• Collaborate with the director in the development and implementation of the department education plan.
• Collaborate with the director to:
  • Ensure educational outcomes of liaison meetings (e.g., skin care, safety, infection prevention) are completed, and serve as back‑up when needed.
  • Ensure educational outcomes of nursing shared governance council meetings are completed and serve as back‑up.

• Education (formal):
  • Graduate of a professional nursing program.
  • Current RN licensure in the state of Iowa, or qualified multi‑state license required.
  • BSN required or completed within 5 years.
  • Certification in area of practice (e.g., CCRN) preferred (from Magnet approved certifications).
• Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years professional nursing experience required.
  • Demonstrates expertise in all aspects of the nursing care setting.

  • Strong technology skills including software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, audio/video equipment, and Electronic Medical Record).
  • Excellent collaboration and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and written skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships.
  • High degree of initiative and judgment.
