Curries (an ASSA ABLOY company) is expanding its Safety Team and is looking for a Safety Specialist. This role will be based on‑site at our manufacturing facility located in Mason City, Iowa on 2nd shift with hours from 1 pm to 9 pm.
OverviewYou will drive workplace health, safety, and compliance initiatives. In this role, you will champion a culture of safety by implementing policies, conducting inspections, leading training, and serving as a first responder, ensuring compliance with OSHA and company standards while supporting employees across all shifts.
You would also:- Assure implementation of safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations as well as Door Group and ASSA ABLOY requirements.
- Maintain required documentation in an orderly and easily retrievable manner (daily inspection sheets, incident reports, press checks, etc.).
- Track safety training – monthly topics, forklift and LOTO certifications, etc.
- Conduct safety walkthroughs and risk assessments.
- Assist with implementation and/or follow‑up of corrective measures.
- Prepare reports on incident data and presentations.
- Assist in New Employee Orientations.
- Champion safety by facilitating Safety Team meetings including assisting in administration of Safety related CHIP projects and VPP implementation.
- Maintain Safety boards.
- Maintain THRIVE SDS database in conjunction with Sustainability Manager.
- Participate in incident and near‑miss root cause analysis.
- Ensure all incident/near‑miss corrective actions and safety improvements are entered into AIC/Thrive and track resolution to 100% completion rate.
- Track and maintain the Occupational Safety Assessment process.
- Assist with Safety Week activities.
- Manage prescription safety glasses and safety shoe/boot program.
- Track and conduct follow‑up on hearing and respirator testing.
- Perform analysis of related data to identify trends. Communicate as directed.
- Plan and assure implementation of programs to train and motivate supervisors and employees in work site safety practices especially off shifts.
- Organize, facilitate and conduct inspections of facilities, procedures, and processes to detect existing potential hazards and assure the effectiveness of related programs.
- Coordinate leadership participation in facility walkthroughs to detect existing or potential hazards and assure the effectiveness of related programs.
- Monitor the general environment for industrial hygiene related items (noise and air quality), request or perform testing and communicate results.
- Work with Curries Clinic personnel to provide leadership for the first responder team and ensure results are consistent with the defined role.
- Conduct research on compliance and regulations for policies, programs, procedures as needed.
- Ensure company programs, policies, and procedures are organized and accessible in document control.
- Perform special assignments and projects as assigned.
- Actively participate in providing a safe and harmonious working environment for all employees.
- Assure compliance with federal, state, local, and corporate governance policies, regulations and laws, AADG programs and policies and the ASSA ABLOY Code of Conduct.
- High School Diploma, GED or Silver CRC required.
- Emergency Medical Technician preferred or willingness to obtain.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
- Comfortable presenting to groups using audiovisual tools and technology.
- Proficient in computer applications and standard office procedures.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Willingness to pursue ongoing education in safety and health standards (e.g., OSHA for General Industry, Ergonomics, etc.).
- Ability to maintain personnel and injury records confidentially.
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including off-shifts.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Proficient communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, organizational, follow‑up and a high comfort level balancing multiple priorities or projects simultaneously.
