Position Summary:Diagnoses and treats patients with psychiatric disorders through the continuum of care by working with a team of mental health professionals to provide treatment through PHP (which includes Eating Disorder PHP)/general and eating disorder IOP and outpatient services. Workload will be approximately 50% PHP/IOP and 50% outpatient. There is the opportunity to be PHP Medical Director with appropriate experience.
MajorDuties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts a thorough, comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, and reviews and assesses information regarding patient’s medical and treatment history, obtained from patient, family, other treatment providers, and staff.
- Examines patient to assess general medical condition at admission and on an ongoing basis (and refers patients out to their PCP, urgent care, or the ED as indicated.).
- Orders laboratory and other special diagnostic tests and evaluates data obtained. Prescribes medication and other forms of treatment according to best practices and latest evidence base.
- Determines nature and extent of mental illness, and formulates a psychiatric treatment plan (program treatment plan completed by PHP SW and/or RN).
- Completes required documentation in the electronic medical record within the time frames based on current policy requirements.
- Knowledge of The Joint Commission and Ohio Department of Behavioral Health requirements for PHP/IOP.
- Works effectively with an interdisciplinary team of clinicians to treat and direct treatment of patients, utilizing evidenced based psychotherapeutic methods and medications. Involves the patient and family in treatment planning when appropriate.
- Knowledge of LCOH services to facilitate referral of patients to the appropriate level of care.
- Observes patient safety and security procedures; determines appropriate action; reports potentially unsafe conditions. Effectively handles difficult patient situations, responds promptly to patient needs in an appropriate manner, and responds to requests for service and assistance.
