GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Provides personal, career and educational skills which enhance students' ability to learn. Counsels students in grades nine through twelve and provides educational, vocational and career guidance services.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Valid certificate/license as issued by the Ohio Department of Education.
PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATIONS

* Identify, report, and/or if possible control unsafe conditions or safety hazards in order to maintain safe and secure working and learning environments.
* Demonstrate professional respect and integrity when interacting with students, parents, staff, community members and other stakeholders. This includes and is not limited to verbal, nonverbal, personal and electronic interactions.
* Comply with federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines that prohibit coercive, harassing, threatening, retaliating, bullying or discriminating conduct.
* Communicate in a truthful, timely, compassionate, and empathetic manner about any matter of interest to the District following the appropriate chain of authority.
* Manage District property and assets in an ethical and responsible manner in accordance with federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
* Maintain confidentiality of information as required under federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
* Report actions, through the appropriate chain of authority that may represent violations of federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
* Refrain from unethical activity that may reasonably interfere with the legitimate operational interests and goals of the District.
* Comply with all other federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Assesses and counsels students based on observations, conversations and test results.
* Leads the standardized testing program, including gifted testing in collaboration with the building principal.
* Administers tests and surveys and interprets results in areas of achievement, aptitude and vocational preferences.
* Assists with class placement.
* Coordinates multiple programs such as drug free schools and self-concept relationship building.
* Observes student interaction for possible recognition of abuse and suicide threats.
* Provides personal counseling for students, families and groups to enhance self-understanding, acceptance of responsibility and decision-making skills.
* Provides group counseling for student interaction, communication and to support skill development.
* Consults with teachers, staff and parents to determine the developmental needs of students.
* Provides orientation for students new to the school.
* Assists students in understanding and overcoming social and emotional problems.
* Participates, and at times leads parent conferences and meetings such as IATs and IEPs.
* Collects, organizes, and analyzes information about students through records, tests, interviews, and professional sources, to assist with vocational and educational planning.
* Maintains current college data including entrance requirements, application forms, entrance examinations and financial aid options.
* Assists students and families with college and career options and selections.
* Monitors students' credits for graduation and honors diplomas.
* Refers students to placement services.
* Provides orientation for students new to the school.
* Assists students in understanding and overcoming social and emotional problems.
* Plans and coordinates individual and group meetings such as eighth grade parent orientation, financial aide night, college planning night and spring awards programs.
* Advises administration of college/career trends with impact upon curriculum.
* Monitors preparation and results of multiple tests including PLAN, PSAT and proficiency examinations.
