Job Description & How to Apply Below
What You'll Be Doing:
No two days look the same in this role, and that's part of what makes it great. Here's a snapshot of what you can expect:
- Lead the installation, startup, and debugging of Makino automated systems — both here at Mason and at customer sites across the country. This means hand‑on mechanical and electrical work: robots, grippers, cell controllers, safety fencing, conveyors, and more.
- Program and teach robots to seamlessly serve Makino machining centers and supporting equipment.
- Install and support third‑party integrated solutions like test stands and parts washers.
- Test and debug new and updated machine/automation control software.
- Share your field observations and ideas — your suggestions for improvements are genuinely valued here.
- Support the broader installation and servicing of Makino machining centers and custom options.
- Provide weekly updates on installation progress so the team stays aligned.
We're not looking for perfection — we're looking for someone with solid fundamentals, a problem‑solving mindset, and the drive to grow. Here's what will set you up for success:
- A strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, with the ability to read engineering drawings confidently.
- Hands‑on troubleshooting skills — both mechanical and electrical.
- Experience programming or modifying robotic automation is a plus but not required.
- Familiarity with PLC ladder logic.
- Good communication skills is a must. You'll be working alongside engineers, customers, and plant personnel regularly.
- A willingness to travel. This role is primarily field‑based, with travel expectations of 75–90%. Some international travel may come up as well.
- An Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or equivalent experience (2‑year degree is preferred but not required).
- 2+ years working with automation or manufacturing systems.
- In‑depth knowledge of Makino or similar machines is a huge plus.
This is a chance to represent Makino in front of our customers, do meaningful technical work, and be part of a team that takes pride in what we build and deliver. If you've been looking for a role where your skills are front and center — and where no two installations are ever quite the same — this might be exactly what you've been waiting for.
