Mechanical Project Engineer

We're looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer to join our Project Engineering team and play a key role in designing and delivering fully automated machining systems for our customers.

What You'll DoAs a Mechanical Project Engineer, you'll lead the design and execution of automation systems that integrate Makino machining centers with robotics and material handling solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design automation equipment such as end-of-arm tooling, conveyors, safety systems, and system layouts
- Develop complete design packages (3D models, drawings, BOMs, documentation)
- Perform mechanical analysis (tolerance stack-ups, stress, deflection, etc.)
- Conduct robot reach studies and support system layout development
- Partner with internal engineering teams, suppliers, and customers from concept through final system acceptance
- Support fabrication, assembly, and troubleshooting of automated systems
- Lead design reviews and contribute to project cost estimates and proposals
- Troubleshoot technical issues and provide practical, cost-effective solutions
- Stay current on emerging automation technologies and recommend design improvements
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (preferred) or equivalent technical experience
- 7+ years of mechanical design experience, including automation systems
- Strong experience with CAD tools (Solid Works, AutoCAD, or similar)
- Background in designing machinery, automation systems, or robotic integration
- Knowledge of pneumatic systems, mechanical components, and system design
- Familiarity with industry standards (OSHA, ANSI, ISO, CE, RIA)
- Experience troubleshooting and solving complex engineering problems
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
- Willingness to travel up to 10%
